Greetings,
What are people's thoughts on global variables in C++?
Why are we taught not to use them in programming?
Is it true that if you are running two copies of the C program one
copy can overwrite another copies global variable?
I know that you could overwrite a value in a global variable from a
function, but you could also do that if you pass the variable in and
then out again... so how is that any different?

I have a sub routine that searches the Outlook PST for a message sent
to/from a particular email address. Obviously, this can take a long time
when the PST contains thousands of messages. I'd like to put a button on my
Access 20003 form that will stop the sub routine when clicked. I know I can
press Ctl + Break and stop the code, but is there a more graceful way to do
this programmatically? Should I use SendKeys?

While stepping through an ASP.NET project, I found that data was being
inserted into my database even though I was not stepping through the
code that inserted the data.
I have a single page with inline code. The page has a Datagrid, a
textbox and a button. When the button is clicked, the value of the
textbox is inserted into the table whose contents are displayed on the
page.

fails in IE 6:
hometab = document.getElementById('hometab');
but this succeeds:
hometabemt = document.getElementById('hometab');
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before, or am I dreaming?

Hi,
I have written an ActiveX object to resize images and upload them to a
database, this all works fine but when I close internet explorer the
process iexporer.exe is still running in my task manager and I can not
launch anything from the desktop (eg. a web shortcut) without firt
killing this process. The object is launched using JScript with the

I set some 'Stop' statements and also visual breakpoints
in asp code (vbscript).
I am doing that in Microsoft Script debugger.
Than I refresh the original page and expect execution to halt
at these breakpoints but unfortunatly it does not..
I had allowed script debugging in both iis home directory and in internet
explorer.
Also i added everyone from active directory to be members of debugging group.
Web Server is W2k sp4 and iis...

I've created a class to listen to all interfaces and do a
BeginAccept(). Once it gets a connection, it passes the connected
socket off and stores it in a List. Next, it continues to listen for
more incoming connections and does the BeginAccpet() again. It does
an infinite loop this way. My question is: What is the best way to
stop this? I thought about putting a boolean in there, but then what
if it's still waiting for an incoming...

Can anyone tell me why j never shows up in my locals window? 32 is
printed to console so I know the assignment is working. I was under the
impression that I could see everything as it happens by setting a
breakpoint then F11 on through the code. Kind of disturbing that j never
