setting buffer size for fstream

I have a very IO instensive program. I need to know if there is a way
to set the buffer size the ifstream and ofstream use.

Or is it easier to just create a wrapper class and maintain my own buffer.

Thanks,

~Shea M.

Hi all. I'm using ifstream to read from a named pipe but i've encountered an annoying problem. For some reason, the program blocks on reading an ifstream's internal buffer that's only half-filled. Only when the buffer becomes full does it resume execution. Here's my test code for reading from a pipe: //(compiled with g++ -std=c++98) //--------------------------------------------- #include <iostream>

Hi, I have a question here regarding setting the prefetch size. So far we took the rule that for OLTP, prefetchsize = extent size and for DSS prefetchsize = extent size * number. However, especially due to the "Skip Scans" for indexes I started to question this. It looks to me that for reading a index DB2 will or do a synchronous read or he will have to scan the whole index and thus prefetch the data correct? If this is so, then it...

Dear Group, I am having a problem setting SocketOptionName.SendTimeout on a client TCPIP application using the sockets in .NET. From the on-line help it is possible to set a SocketOptionName.SendTimeout for sends on TCPIP sockets. In all the tests that I have done with both Async and Sync sends the send returns immediately with the number of bytes sent (< 100 in my messages).

Hi, I'm using PHP 4.4.4 on Apache 2 on Fedora Core 5. PHP was installed using Apache's apxs and the php library was installed to /usr/local/php. However, when I set my "error_reporting" setting to be "E_ALL", notices are still not getting reported. The perms on my file are 664, with owner root and group root. The php.ini file is located at /usr/local/lib/php/php.ini. Any ideas why the setting does not seem to be having an effect? ...

Hello, I'm an intermediate noob reading-in data from ascii-file using an ifstream object. I have specified a c-style string buffer with size of type size_t and I am specifying to use this buffer size as the number of characters to read in using the function read(). The issue I am having is read() expects that the value for the number of characters to read-in will be of type std::streamsize, which is apparently signed int. My buffer

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
