C++ IDE recommendations ? Pu239, Dev-C++, Chimera, Builder, vc++?

Hi,

I have been out of the C++ GUI programming biz for about 5 years,
writing mostly Perl web interfaces and automated, system level tools
without GUIs. I need

I need a slick, C++ IDE to write GUIs with virtual windows, bitmap
support and good control widgets for image manipulation. My first
project is an IMAGE COMPARATOR!

* directory selector
* thumbnail display
* side by side image display (X by Y display, default 2:1)
* simultaneously panning and zooming of all windows
* sliders for X, Y, and Zoom (move/zoom all images)

3rd party, IDE documentation would be most helpful. The tools I have in
mind are going to be used with Photoshop so I need them to run on
windoze. Price is secondary to effectiveness as I need top of the line
tools (but I would rather not make b gates any richer).

The top 3 Google hits for "c++ IDE review" average 7 years old. PCMag
has nada. Each company page seems viable. Where are the consumer reports
reviews? Any recommendations ?

Thank you,

BrianP

That would be easy enough using Borland C++ Builder. I have no
experience with the other systems you mention.

I need a lightweight php editor I can use on my laptop while on the road. Can anyone recommend a (preferably free) php editor? I use DWMX04 on my development workstation, which is great, but I only need to make occasional, ad hoc changes while on the road (and don't want to install DW on my laptop). I have an ftp client on my laptop, so I don't want an integrated FTP client in the editor, but it would be nice if the colors/formatting...

I wonder if you can help me. I am looking at getting back into programming after a break of a number of years and wonder if anyone knows of a decent free C/C++ compiler that uses a graphical interface (IDE) rather than text and command line prompts. Does anyone know of a decent free C/C++ compiler as described above? If you do not know of a free compiler that has a graphical interface, do you know of any other sort of decent free...

This is a little off topic, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask... I am about to purchase a new development laptop computer. Before I do, I thought I might ask the C# development community if there are any recommendations for a good Visual Studio development machine. Is there any machine or brand out there that has come to be preferred within the development community??? Thanks!

Hello All, I'm looking for recommendations on commercial-grade spell check components, and was hoping you might have some good advice for me... So far I've seen ComponentOne, RapidSpell, and Aspose, so I was wondering if there was a general preference for one of these three, or perhaps another one that I haven't discovered yet. Advice, comments & recommendations will be much appreciated!

Hey, all - Can anyone suggest some good books for me? I normally do the graphical end of things, but am getting more involved in the coding (C#). I haven't really had any formal programming training or anything like that, but I'm getting by. I'm still more of a web dev, so that perspective is probably more immediately relevant for me, but I wouldn't mind gaining some deeper knowledge - a better understanding of n-tier, or general...

Out of which of the Microsoft Visual C++ range would anyone recommend? I've been using Dev-C++, but I'd like code completion and I guess I want to see what a commercial IDE looks like. Thanks in advance. (Sorry if this is off topic, c.l.c is just about the language, correct?) -- Reclaim Your Inbox! http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
