Write a program to play a "Dots and Boxes" game variation

The Programmer Of The Month website poses an interesting programming
challenge every so often. We don't have any prizes but we do offer a
friendly forum and the opportunity to compete against fellow
programmers. Hope you'll drop by and give us a look! The latest
problem just began:

http://dinsights.com/POTM/LINESANDBOXES

describes a game called "LINES and BOXES" which is similar to "DOTS and
BOXES".
The main rule differences:

1) you may draw lines longer than one box long;
2) play alternates turns (no bonus for capture);
3) the starting grid may be square or rectangular and may contain some
"pre-made" moves.

If you are a programmer, please think about competing!
If not, then please drop by the forums and share your thoughts!

Thanks for your time.

I finally discovered where all of the blue boxes in my IDE are coming from after, once again, accidently hitting "Mark All" in a Find in the Visual Studio.NET IDE. However, there is no "Unmark All". Does anyone know how to clear these?

Hello and thanks in advance to anyone who offers help. To make this simple, let's say I have a game which has 100 different monsters. I want a binary data file to hold all of these. It would have the index number of the mob, name, size, attributes, etc. I can easily create an editor to edit the records in this file, as soon as I know how to create this file and be able to find a specific monster in the file and fill, say, text boxes...

I want to display a repeating set of formatted infomation that appears within a "box" so that the individual boxes appear to the right of the previous one until the line is filled and then the next one goes onto the following line. Just like "text flow". Each "box" will contain an image and some "formatted" text, possibly held in a small table or something similar (depends what I get to work). Picture something like a business card. ...

Hi, I've been struggling to create a valid XML schema that implements the following innocent-looking concept: A box may contain a bunch of bags (possibly 0). A bag must contain a bunch of boxes (at least 1). It seems like a simple extension on the well-known doll concept: A doll may contain a bunch of dolls (possibly 0). whose simple solution is, for example:

I like to do fun stuff when learning a new language. I've been working with Python for a little while on real world problems mostly fixing bugs and writing a simulator for work. I was thinking as a hobby project developing a simple 2d game (think Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, LoadRunner) and mentioned this to my 14 year old nephew. About a week later I got a full write up for a game that he wrote and would like to play. So I figure why...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
