To round off my trilogy of "why"'s about PHP... :) If this subject have been
discussed before, I'd appreciate a pointer to it. I again haven't found it
in a search of the PHP groups.
The PHP manual mentions "overloading"
(http://no.php.net/manual/en/language.oop5.overloading.php), but it isn't
really overloading at all... Not in the sense it's used in other languages
supporting overloading (such as C++ and Java). As one of the...

Hello all,
I'm trying to get a grasp of the difference between specializing a function
template and overloading it. The example below has a primary template, a
specialization and an overload. Note that the overload is identical to the
specialization except, of course, for the missing "template <>".
I don't know if my questions will be a bit too broad or not, but I thought
I'd give it shot... When is overloading preferable to...

Hi,
I have a problem, that boils down to the following code:

#include <typeinfo>
class Test1 {};
class Test2 {};
class Test3 {};

What is the major difference between function overloading and function
templates?
Thanks!

I know function overloading is not supported in C.
I have a few questions about this:
1. Why? is it from technical reasons? if so, which?
2. why wasn't it introduced to the ANSI?
3. Is there any C implementation supporting this feature?
I assume some of you will claim that there is no need in function
overloading, so I would like to know your arguments too.
Thanks,

Hi!
I'm diving into the some more ++ specific aspects of c++ (and finally
accepting that c++ is more than "a plus added to c" :), so that means
using namespaces, templates, std::strings, lists, vectors, operator
overloading and what not.. And i was wondering if there is a way to
override the global dereference operator, so to be able to check the
address that one tries to dereference. This gives the ability to throw
an exception when...

Operator overloading has a sort syntax rather than member function call
for stack based memory allocation.
like complex<int> c1,c2,c3;
c3= c1+c2;
How the same can be applied to heap based memory allocation?
like complex<int> * c1,*c2,*c3;
i still want to do something like c3 = c1+c2 ; rether than *c3 =
*c1+*c2;

Hello everyone,
I am having trouble overloading the < operator for an assignment. I
use a struct that contains information and I would like to sort this
structure using STL sort with my own criteria of sorting. Basically, I
would like to sort on visitor count of the Attraction structure.
However, it never uses the < overloaded operator with my code.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
