What does your textbook on OOP say about this? If you don't have
any textbook, are there any other recommended books your teacher
named for you? Did you try finding those in the library and reading
them?

Also, consider posting general questions on OOP to 'comp.object'.
This newsgroup is _not_ about OOP but rather about C++ _language_.
In C++ OOP is implemented by calling member functions rather than
passing messages.

That's what the internet is for. This group is for short, pithy, and
hopefully, snide or insulting, answers.

Read the preface and/or introduction of your text book.
Wikipedia is your friend. In particular see the section on further reading.

That says OO programs model the Real World.

So do the introductions to many textbooks. That doesn't make it right.

(It does make for a blazing USENET thread subject!)

Well, I disagree.

There are several aspects to object oriented programming. Do a google
search and see what YOU think.

I'm trying to write an helper class that allows me to serialize objects to a socket (or a NetworkStream). I know there are plenty of .NET classes that help me to serialize object to an array of byte, but I can't undestand how I can send a block of bytes and being sure the receiver will receive only this block....I mean, if I write the bytes to a NetworkStream the receiver will get a stream of bytes and he won't have any way to know how to...

Hope someone can assist. I'm trying to answer a book question. I'm going around in circles in relation to 'pointer-to-char'. Object : A short program is to be created, which involves a structore and one member element is a char array. A function is to be created that passes the structure as a reference, along with the 'pointer-to-char'. The function is to assign the passed-in 'pointer-to-char' to the referenced (passed-in)...

Hi, I'm currently trying to pass messages into a queue. This all works fine, however, i'm trying to my program to stop sending messages to the queue when it reaches an upper threshold. At present this threshold is the number of chairs in a waiting room. This is an int represented by nChairs. So i want to compare this to the number of messages in my queue. I'm using the following lines of code to do this, however the queue is always...

I'm trying to pass a custom object back and forth between forms. This custom object is pulled into the app using an external reference to an assembly DLL that was given to me by a co-worker. A query-string flag is used to indicate to the page whether it should instantiate a new instance of the object or access an existing instance from the calling page. On the both pages I have a property of the page which is an instance of this custom...

Hi there, I was wondering if it was possible to pass objects in windows messages, obviously via pointers I would presume, but I can't quite work out how to turn an object into a pointer in VB.NET, if it is even possible of course?!? Anyway, if anyone knows a way of doing this I would be most appreciative of some advice, thanks yet again in advance! Nick.

Hello list. This is my first message and it's nothing needful but rather playful. I'd just like to hear some thoughts on something I consider to be a curiosity of javascript usage. I've seen a lot of folks looking to implement some kind of super-like functionality in javascript and it's usually baked into some larger effort of emulating classes. However if you really need* that type of functionality why not get it like so: //assuming...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
