I have a double-linked list. I need to insert RANDOM numbers into it. The
rand() function doesn't put "random" number in the list, in the sense that
every time you run the program it should produce new numbers. Also, I need
to know if it is possible to remove just one of an item, instead of all that
match the given criteria with the remove command. Any thoughts? 2 1475

Are you seeding the random number generator? Look up srand().

I didn't know of that until you mentioned it, but I just implemented it in
my code, and it works just fine. Thanks for the idea. This thread has been closed and replies have been disabled. Please start a new discussion. Similar topics |

Im looking for a decent random number generator. Im looking to make a large
number of random numbers (100 or so, if not more) in a short period of time
(as fast as possible).
the function i was using to get random numbers was
Random rn = new Random(System.currentTimeMillis());
but it seems that the system doesn't update the milliseconds often enough to
cause a true randomaziation (i ran just the System.currentTimeMillis() in a

Ok well what I am trying to do is have
1.) the background color to change randomly with 5 different colors.(change
on page load)
2,) 10 different quotes randomly fadeing in and out in random spots on the
webpage. with a delay timer on them, so they keep changing as the page is
open. Not random each time the page is loaded.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreaciated, I have tried many of

Hi,
I need a way to use random numbers in c++. In my c++ project, when using
the mingw compiler I used a mersenne twister that is publicly available and
this did its job well. Now I have shelled out on VC++ 6.0 compiling that
same code is proving difficult. I am not too worried how I generate random
numbers in c++, as long as it is sufficiently random.
Can anybody help me out in getting what I want from VC++?

Hello all,
Is there a function in the standard C library which returns a prime
number which is also pseudo-random?
Assuming there isn't, as it appears from the docs that I have, is there
a better way than to fill an array of range 0... RAND_MAX with
pre-computed primes and using the output of rand() to index into it to
extract a random prime.

If you only use a 32 bit seed for a random number generator,
does that mean you can only ever produce a maximum of
2^32 (approx 4 billion) different sequences?
What about the Mersenne Twister, with it's massive period
of 2^19937-1. Will you only ever have access to a tiny
portion of this ring of numbers, if you only use a 32-bit seed?
Will this set of sequences be confined to the beginning of the
period, ie, your sequence will have to...

I would like to be able to create a random number generator that produces
evenly distributed random numbers up to given number.
For example, I would like to pick a random number less than 100000, or
between 0 and 99999 (inclusive).
Further, the I want the range to be a variable. Concretely, I would like to
create the following method:
unsigned long Random( unsigned long num )

I need to generate two uniform random numbers between 0 and 1 in C ?
How to do it ?
I looked into rand function where you need to #define RAND_MAX as 1
but will this rand function give me uniformly distributed and unique
numbers ?

Hey everyone,
Just a friendly question about an efficient way to do this. I have
a graph with nodes and edges (networkx is am amazing library, check it
out!). I also have a lookup table with weights of each edge. So:
weights = .12
weights = .53
weights = 1.23
weights = -2.34
etc.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
