I need to access databases on both win2k and Linux systems but I have to set
up the DSNs under program control ... no uses using GUIs ...
Has anyone done this? if so can we discuss it either in here or offline?

My question has to do with python and linux - I was interested in
finding out what it would take to reimplement the Linux Kernel in python
basically just taking the source code from linux and rewriting it in

ok, i m going to use Linux for my Python Programs, mainly because i
need to see what will these fork() and exec() do. So, can anyone tell
me which flavour of linux i should use, some say that Debian is more
programmer friendly, or shold i use fedora, or Solaris. Because these
three are the only ones i know of that are popular and free.

I need to detect whether the operating system I am running on (not the
Python version) is 64bit or 32bit. One requirement is that I need to
include support for non-Intel/AMD architectures.
The 2 ways I have thought detecting 64bit are:
1. struct.calcsize("P") == 8
2. '64' in os.uname()
I'm not convinced that either one of these is really adequate. Does

I am needing to build python 2.5 on Windows XP x64 Windows Server 2003
sp1 Platform SDK and am not finding anything documented on the process
to use. Has anyone had any success with this? If so has anyone
documented it? The documentation that resides in pcbuild/readme.txt is
not helpful at all.

I have small code, that compiles on Visual C++ into a shared library
(DLL).
I need to compile it under linux, but the code includes some data
types I'm not familiar with, such as DWORD, HANDLE, __int64, ULONG

I need to know if I'm running on 32bit or 64bit ... so far I haven't
come up with how to get this info via python. sys.platform returns
what python was built on ... but not what the current system is.
I thought platform.uname() or just platform.processor() would have
done it, but python returns an empty string on windows. Any ideas?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
