I did the folloing in python shell:
>>> x = 5.07e-25
>>> x = long(x)
>>> print x
0L
Um... I was under the impresion that long numbers had very very long
precision. But, it seems that in this case it rounded it to zero :(

I have a question regarding accessing long long ints in unions. I have
constructed a union with a double, two ints in a structure, and a long
long int. When the double is loaded with a floating-point constant, the
double is loaded correctly, and the two ints in the structure reflect
the double correctly when printed as hex values. However, when the long
long is printed as a hex value (using %016x) it prints 8 zeros then the
upper 32-bits...

What is the best way to convert a managed unsigned int64 to an
unsigned long? Basically I need to do the following:
System::UInt64 managedInt = 10;
unsigned long unmanagedInt;
unmanagedInt = managedInt;
Also it would be nice to know how to do this:
System::UInt64 managedInt;

Dear all,
I am using the following code to retrieve the size of a certain file and the
available (free) space on the disk. The problem is, that I get the size of
the file returned as a Long and the size of free disk space as UInt64.
Apparently, there are no function to convert a Long to a UInt64 or to
compare the two (I'm not expecting to convert the UInt64 to a Long
necessarily, but it should work the other way round, right?).
Short...

I'm having issues with garbage collection with my long-standing service
process. If you could review and point me in the right direction it would be
of great help. If there are any helpful documents that you could point me to
help me control the GC, then that would be great also.
The .Net GC does not cleanup memory of our service process unless it is
forced to by another process that hogs memory.

I was very puzzled about the conversion between float and long, I
cann't understand why a long val can convert to a float, as the below
codes show:
typedef unsigned long u_long;
float val = 3.14159;
u_long nw_val = *((u_long *) &val);
than the nw_val equal to 1078530000, I made such conversion:
float d_val = *((float*)&nw_val);

These types already have perfectly good names already. Why give them
new ones?
If you must rename them for some reason, use typedefs, not macros.

I need a >49 bit integer type. tried sizeof(long long), says 8. 8 byte =
64 bit right? but when I try to assign a value with more than 32 bit,
it fails. To illustrate:
for (i=0; i<64; i++){
long long int k = 1<<i;
cout<<i<<"\t"<<k<<"\t"<<sizeof(k)<<"\n";
}

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
