Hi. Should I jump right into C++, or is it better to learn C first?
I'm not a total beginner; I know Javascript, but I obviously would like
to learn a more powerful language.
Thanks,

Note to newbies (and the unobservant!):
Please note that the above is just flame bait. The followups in the
original message demonstrate this. No point replying to his nonsense.

Jump right into C++. Only learn C if you want to learn C.

Obviously. Why you set your follow-ups to photography newsgroups is
still a mystery though. Trolling?

Oh, okay, you obviously have better filters than me. Sorry for the
noise.

It has nothing to do with filters. You changed the Subject header of
the message, and some newsreaders, like Outlook Express, do not put it
in the same thread. They make it seem that you started another thread.
Just FYI...

Hmm...nope. Original post not here. Maybe it hasn't arrived yet. Or
maybe Tony is a well known troll and has gotten himself deleted from
newsservers.

I didn't realize OE was that bad. So it is too stupid to follow
the references chain?

I don't think "stupid" is applicable to programs. Software cannot
be smart or stupid, it only does what it's designed and programmed
to do, and always _precisely_ that.

Hi all,
I posted the same question this afternoon but my message isn't showing up, so I thought I'd give it another try....
in case you should see it later I apologize for posting the same question twice!
Here it is:
I am having problems reading the value of a text Node. I think it has to do with the fact that the text is in a <span> tag.
I have a table and in each <td> I have text + a checkbox. I want to retreive the text next to the...

I would like to calculate the time it takes to load a picture in tenths of a
seconds. So I get the current time, load the image, and once loaded I get
the current time again.
I would like to know if it took 9.3 seconds or 9.7 seconds or whatever.
Can javascript get tenths of a second.
Thanks for all,
Guy

Hello,
I'd like to write JavaScript code that refreshes a frame once a second
loading a different image each time. Basically, here's what the script
would do:
0 sec load img0.gif
1 sec load img1.gif
2 sec load img2.gif
3 sec load img0.gif (back to the first image)
4 sec load img1.gif

Right next to K&R2 on my bookshelf is _C Programming: A Modern Approach_ by
Professor K.N. King. The second edition of this book is now available. See
this URL for details:

I don't think I'm alone among c.l.c. participants in recommending this book
(based upon the very good first edition).

Hello good people,
Please bear with me as this is my first post and I am relative new to ASP. I do have VB6 experience. I have a form which enables users within our company to do an intranet reservation of available resources (laptops, beamers, etc). The MySql database queries are already in place, as is the ASP administration panel. The frontend that users will see however, still needs some work. I'm really close, but since I'm no...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
