Developping a web browser under Linux Mandrake 9.1 : i need help !!

Hello, i'm new to c++ and to linux, i have to develop a full web browser.
I don't really know how to start and i'd like to know if any of you would
have some kind of
working plan/structure in mind. I was thinking of using the GTK+ library ,
is it a good idea??
What's more i have to program an HTML interpretor, maybe an image loader,
and if i have time,
a javascript compilator. Any idea to help me begin that projet ???

Thank you,
Clement.

A project like this will need a _lot_ of work. Most web browsers needed
years of development by dozens of programmers before they became really
useful. And those develepers typically were _not_ beginners at
programming in C++ or programming for the target OS. I'd say you will
need at least two years of learning to become good enough for even
starting.
I don't want to discourage you, and I know one doesn't want to start
with "boring" stuff, but for a beginning project, a web browser is far
too huge.

I hope I don't bore you with this personal experience. But, I hope the details are helpful for other Python and/or Linux newbies, or for those thinking about becoming such. I have been using Python on Windows for a few years now. One of the things that attracted me to Python was the fact that it offered the possibility of learning to program in Linux wile not even using Linux. I recognized a few years back that Linux would eventually...

Being a new'ish user to both Linux and Python, I've been 'happily' learning Python (2.3) with Idle and Tkinter as installed with Mandrake 10. Thought I would try installing Python 2.4 (to completely replace 2.3) (first time I've tried installing anything from source) Followed the readme file (all done from my 'home' directory), tar -zxvf Python-2.4.tgz ./configure

(I apologize for my "ugly" english... :-) I'm a beginner with Linux (Mandrake 9.1) and try to run my own local web server. Apache 1.3.27 et PHP 4.3.3 are OK. The problem is MySQL... I tried with the 3.23.56 version and the 4.0.1. Always, I recompiled. I have installed also phpMyAdmin (once agin, in 2 versions) in order to understand what happened. It is able to connect to the database but not to read the data. I tried to "see" my...

I'm doing a survey. When do you think GNU/Linux will be ready for the average Joe? What obstacles must it overcome first?

Hi. I'm designing a site, and I'm trying find a way of browsing it without using frames, so I can test the <noframes> </noframes> tags. I use a linux mandrake 10 system, with KDE 3.2. Is there a browser for linux that doesn't use frames? Or is it possible to configure either firefox or konqueror to not use frames?

I have an old machine running Mandrake 9.2 and PHP 4.3.1 hosting several websites. With the coming changes to daylight savings time in March 2007, what are my options in correcting the current calculation on this machine? Ideal option: RPM patch. Worst option: upgrade OS (it's a very old machine).

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
