hi, i wrote a simple base-conveter utility for practice, it seems
works fine right now, hope any gurus out there can give me some
suggestions to, critics of, optimisations on this program or my
programming practice. the code are mainly written in C, but need to be
compiled using a C++ compiler because of the using of builtin Boolean
type. it has been tested under VC7 and GCC 3.3.1. thanx in advance.

I've got an application that generates GUIDs. A lot of GUIDs. Lots
of GUIDs that end up in files on disk, taking up space. I'd like to
continue using the Guid.NewGuid() function as my unique tag generator,
but I'd also like to compress them to base 36 strings, which should
retain their uniqueness but save me disk space. I've looked at
various base conversion functions, and haven't found a suitable one.
Further, I don't need an AnyBase...

I have two classes: a base class (BaseClass) and a class deriving from
it (DerivedClass). I have a List<DerivedClass> that for various
reasons needs to be of that type, and not a List<BaseClass>. However, I
need to cast that list to a List<BaseClass> and it is not working. The
code is below. I get the following exception:
"Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1' to
type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1'."

In Managed C++ one could use __super to invoke a base class function.
Has this been changed to "super" or is it still "__super" ? Looking
through the MSDN help I could not find a hit for just "super".

I am absolutely stuck with this one.
I have to create a temperature conversion calculator that rounds the resulting temperature to the nearest whole number & vice versa. The result must be displayed in a window alert. The given formula is (Fahrenheit_temp - 32) * .55
The only tip/clue I have is to use
var tempInCelcius = (document.Converter.fahrenheit.value - 32) * .55;
var tempInFahrenheit = (document.Converter.celcius.value * 1.8) + 32
