Hi. I posted yesterday asking if C# lived up to the hype. Thus far the
feedback has been all positive. (Thanks.)
Can anyone suggest GOOD books for learning C# and the Visual Studio .NET
IDE? If there is a book that covers both, that would be great. Also, is
it necessary for me to learn a lot about the .NET framework that wouldn't
also be covered in one of the books? If I can find a book that'll get me
up and running with the IDE...

I am designing a class to represent an item in a database (containing
model's of products). I need to display a listing of all of these items
in a listview to be displayed to the user (so they can select, edit, or
delete the item). To follow the right way cause I am new and learning
OOP should I create a function within the class to return all items or
in a module or in the calling form itself? I figured it shouldnt go in
the class...

Hello:
I am deploying a new web site that will have over 100 pages.
In the ASP world, I would create templtes - include files, etc... to easily
"manage" the site.
In asp.net 2.0 I want to create a web control but apparently I have to
"create" a web site first.
Concern #1: is VS an appropriate interface to manage 100+ web pages site
conversely
Concern #2: when asp.net 3.0 comes there might be fundamental structural
issues the 3.0 does...

I am new to asp.net. I am writing a program that will revolve around an
extensive client database, and wonder what the best way to design the
program is, using classes. I have about 10 different sections, or
categories if you will, about a client. For instance, some clients have
data regarding our Estate Planning section, some clients have data regarding
our Real Estate section, etc. Would it be better to have one object that...

Hi,
It came up in a standards panel meeting the other day that "all c or C++
programmers" have a copy of ISO C and/or C++ ...
I challenged this and said most don't (outside those working on the
standards).
Well, do most of you have a copy of the relevant ISO language standard
of your own or is there one on your desk at work?

An friend insider told me that VB is to be killled off within 18
months. I guess this makes sence now that C# is here. I believe it and
am actualy surprised they ever even included it in VS 2003 in the first
place. Anyone else heard about this development?

I'm having some trouble understanding the meaning of visibility.

private $key2 = "apple";
protected $key3 = "book";
public $key4 = 42;

I'm going to try to describe this situation as best as I can, but if
anything is unclear please let me know. Some of this database was
already in place before I arrived on the scene, and I don't really
have the buyin to change it.
There is a table of certificates that a person can hold. A person may
hold certificates of various types. I need to further group a person's
certificates together so that (for example) renewal dates can be...

I'd like to learn JavaScript while sitting in my easy chair with my
laptop on my lap.
Option 1: Buy a wireless router so I can access the plethora of online-
only tutorials from anywhere in the house.
Option 2: Buy a book and try to figure out how to read a book with one
hand while using the laptop with the other.
Option 3: Find a good downloadable tutorial (either PDF or a bundle of

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
