I have now free time and money to do what I want :-) I have some basic skills in programming (C, Pascal, Macromedia Actionscript) but don't know exactly what to do in the world of programming. And also I don't know exactly why would I learn Python rather than C#, C++ or Perl. Basicaly I don't know where to start, if there is much to do or if it is has it seems and there is software to everything nowadays and so doesn't make sense to spend...

Hey All, After a doc/view/frame is created and initialized, is there a way from within the frame class code (CMyChildFrame::OnUpdateFrameMenu()) to get the resource ID (nIDResource = IDR_???TYPE) used by CFrameWnd::LoadFrame()? I know the member variable m_nIDHelp is set to nIDResource in the LoadFrame() call, but don't feel that is a safe way to retrieve the resource ID. So I was hoping there was an API that I could call to get the...

I am giving some thought to applying for some jobs that want people with Java and C++ experience. I have been writing Java for several years and am fluent enough that I don't have to get help with Java very often. I have no real C++ experience and not much C experience for that matter. However, the core Java statements are "borrowed" from C and C++ has often been called "C with classes". It seems to me that it shouldn't take very long to...

Hi, I read that ASP.NET uses VB.NET instead of VBScript. I also read that ASP.NET is a subset of VB.NET. So if I learn VB.NET first then do I have the knowledge for programming ASP.NET applications or do I need to learn both VB.NET and ASP.NET. Thank you. TAM

Hello, I would like to build a website using ASP.NET. I would like website visitors to be able to download code that I would like to make available to them and that would be residing on my personal server. Are there any code samples or books that someone can recommend so that I can implement this. I would prefer VB.NET code, but I am willing to convert from C# if necessary.

Hi all, I'm from a Linguistics background and am new(er) to programming. Could someone recommend a book or resource that teaches programming aspects with Python? Python I hear is a very appropriate language for handling text and language processing. I'm searching for a resource that examines programming from a case study like perspective. Such as, you're faced with problem of type X - and here's how you should look at it to break it...

I am learning more and more Prototype and Script.aculo.us and got the Bungee book... and wonder if I should get some books on jQuery (jQuery in Action, and Learning jQuery) and start learning about it too? Once I saw a website comparing Prototype to Java and jQuery to Ruby... but now that I read more and more about Prototype, it is said that Prototype actually came from Ruby on Rails development and the creator of Prototype created it...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
