Opening an already opened Excel workbook in C#/VB

Hi,

Would anyone know how I could open an already opened excel workbook.

I have Windows Form with a button, and when clicked it opens the
spreadsheet as follows
string filename = @"C:\Documents\ Test.xls";

Excel.Applicati on ea = new Excel.Applicati on();

Excel.Workbook wb = ea.Workbooks.Op en(filename, 0, true, 5, "", "",
true, Excel.XlPlatfor m.xlWindows, "\t", false, false, 0, true, 1, 0);

ea.Visible = true;
But now if the user clicks a second time on the button I would like to
check that the file is not opened and inform him/her to closed it.
eg.
such as: if ( wb.isAlreadyOpe ned() == true )
MessageBox.Show ("Close file
etc...");
Thanks

Hi, I'm having problems opening up excel thru my code. It will write and saveas an excel file, but the application won't open on the user's computer, excel seems to be hidden, because it shows up on the task manager. The problem is, if this user tries to download the data more than once, it gets stuck because the file already exists, so I want it to overwrite the old file...but the user can't overwrite when the excel app won't work! Any...

When I try to programmatically open an existing Excel document using a custom windows form, it works perfectly. I instanciate a new instance of the Excel.ApplicationClass and then set the Visible property to 'true'...then I open the workbook in question via my code..... However, when I try this using ASP.NET. It does not work. I've messed around and gave full access and control to my ASPNET user to practically every darn folder on...

I don't some Excel automation. I've created a program that opens and Excel template and inputs information to it. It runs great on my machine. When I build and deploy I have a user that keep getting the error message: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Here is the code that generates the message: Dim xlApp As Excel.Application Dim xlBook As Excel.Workbook Dim xlSheet As Excel.Worksheet

>From an asp.net web page I want the user to open the results of a SQL query in Excel, as automatically as possible (ie not having to loop through columns, rows, in code). For this, dataset.writexml works great (got the code from http://forums.devx.com/archive/index.php/t-57273.html ) The only question I have is, when Excel opens up, it isn't the view I would prefer. It opens as a read-only workbook, I would prefer as an

I have an Access application that needs to open an Excel workbook which has Cognos links in it. When I open the Excel workbook with the Cognos links in it using Excel, the Cognos Analyst menu is there. However, when I open the Excel workbook from Access VBA by creating an instance of Excel using Set objXL = CreateObject("Excel.Application") and then using objXL.Open to open the Excel workbook, the Cognos Analyst menu is not there. I found...

This is probably answered elsewhere, but I've searched the Web and VBA for Excel manual, find no answers. I have a VBA-coded macro in an Excel workbook that is to open another existing workbook -- a .xls file, not .csv -- copy data from it, paste that into the original workbook where the macro resides, then close the source workbook. If I use the debugger to step through the macro -- putting a breakpoint at its first executable line, run...

What I want to know is that while one excel application is closed by VBA code from module, another excel application has to be opened. That means, I have written code to open new excel sheet in the Workbook_BeforeClose. I have written a code like workbooks.open (Path\filename) If a workbook is closed directly from excel vba and then opened from code within VBA. It is not working. It is working fine while we close excel application...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
