I have an Access application that needs to open an Excel workbook
which has Cognos links in it. When I open the Excel workbook with the
Cognos links in it using Excel, the Cognos Analyst menu is there.
However, when I open the Excel workbook from Access VBA by creating an
instance of Excel using Set objXL = CreateObject("E xcel.Applicatio n")
and then using objXL.Open to open the Excel workbook, the Cognos
Analyst menu is not there. I found that if I use the Shell command to
open Excel and the Excel template file, then the Cognos Analyst menu
is there, but now I need to know how to set the objXL object variable
to the Excel instance I opened with Shell.

excel seems to be hidden, because it shows up on the task manager. The
problem is, if this user tries to download the data more than once, it gets

I have a dataset with some content. I can convert this
dataset in a csv format which is then stored in a
stringwriter. Now I want this be open via excel, so I set
the contenttype "application/vnd.ms-excel". To access this
page the user requires to login, once the user is logged
in he can access this file. Now when this file is opened
in excel it shows me the login screen instead of the data.

DB2 V7.2 +FP13. After I did the tuning, the "dynexpln" shows the
"total cost" is down to 8214567 from 37345265, also I try to run the
SQL in the cmd line, it now only took several minutes to return about
50M rows instead of +10 hours.
The cube is re-built after the tuning, and I could see the same SQL

I've figured it out with the suggestion from a colleague:
Set objXL = CreateObject("Excel.Application") or Set objXL =
GetObject(, "Excel.Application")
creates an instance of Excel without the Cognos Add-in
I added the following 3 lines to add the Cognos Add-in:
objXL.AddIns("Analyst").Installed = False
objXL.AddIns.Add FileName:=GetAppSetting("DefaultCognosAddinFolder")
