Team Foundation Server not on Team Suite DVD?

Joe
Based on what it says in the subscribers downloads for Team Suite I would
think it would be there. Can it be downloaded separately or is it just the
Workgroups one?
Visual Studio Team System consists of:

a.. Visual Studio Team Foundation Server, an extensible team collaboration
server that enables all members of the extended IT team to effortlessly
manage and track the progress and health of projects
b.. Visual Studio Team Edition for Software Architects, visual designers
that enable architects, operations managers, and developers to design
service-oriented solutions that can be validated against their operational
environments
c.. Visual Studio Team Edition for Software Developers, advanced
development tools that enable teams to build reliable, mission-critical
services and applications
d.. Visual Studio Team Edition for Software Testers, advanced load testing
tools that enable teams to verify the performance of applications prior to
deployment
e.. Visual Studio Team Suite, bundle of Visual Studio Team Edition for
Software Architects, Visual Studio Team Edition for Software Developers, and
Visual Studio Team Edition for Software Testers
f.. Proven process guidance, prescriptive architectural guidance, and
solution accelerators that assist organizations in improving the
predictability and reliability of delivering mission-critical solutions

Team Suite itself is only the three flavors of VS Team Edition
(architects/developers/testers). Team Studio is the all-encompasing product
brand of all the components. Team Foundation Server is a seperate product
though the workgroup edition is, I believe, part of each of the team edition
packages, at least it is with the appropriate MSDN subscription as
illustrated at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/pr...iptions/chart/

I have Visual Studio Team Suite with MSDN Premium. This doesn't explain why
it says in the description on the download page that the Team Suite includes
Team Foundation Server. I thought the Team Suite was the entire Team Studio.

Hi Joe,

There might be some misunderstandin g here. The webpage says the Team System
is consists of Team Foundation Server and Team Suite. Both of them are
parts of the whole Team System. Team Suite is the client which has all the
functions of TA, TD and TT. While Team Foundation Server(TFS) is the server
which enables the team members' collaboration.

You have to download TFS seperately with your MSDN subscription.

Anything unclear, please feel free to let me know.

Something else to keep in mind, I don't think Team Foundation Server wasn't
released until very recently. I know it wasn't released at launch as it was
still in beta at the time so it's probably located seperately, though the
workgroup edition should be available. It could be that the statement is
just marketing speak. For example, Visual Studio comes with MSDN Library,
but it's a completely seperate CD in most cases.

Hope this helps,

Hi Joe,

As far as I know, there is no full version for download. Currently, only
trial version(for domain users) and workgroup version(for workgroup users)
are available. If you need to get a full version, please contact our
customer service for how to purchase license for each client.

I believe that this is incorrect. The Workgroup version of Team Foundation
Server *will* work in a domain. It's limited to 5 users, if you have more
than 5 users you have to buy the full version of the server. The full
version isn't downloadable from the MSDN library because there isn't an MSDN
product that includes the full version.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use team foundation server as a SCM backend with non-team system editions of visual studio? For example, we're planning on getting a copy of Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office and I'd really love to use team foundation server for source control instead of sourcesafe. Is that a supported configuration?

I am doing a Team Foundation Server Dual-Server Installation. According to Microsoft TFS installation walk-through, after installing Team Foundation Server Databases in the Data-Tier server, I need to Install Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server Service Pack 1, is this correct??
