I promised I'd put together a PEP for a 'generic object' data type for
Python 2.5 that allows one to replace __getitem__ style access with
dotted-attribute style access (without declaring another class). Any
comments would be appreciated!
Thanks!

I am using ASP to read code from a text file that I am displaying on my
page. Because I do not want the code from the text file to be executed, I
used the Server.HTMLEncode() method to display it as it is in the file.
However, the spaces used to indent lines is still removed by the browser. I
cannot use VBScript's replace function to replace all spaces with
because that would replace all spaces, including ones that I do not want...

I understand that <br /> is marginal in CSS, and so am looking for a
substitute for the EOL character. I've failed in both approaches and
seek advice.
The first thing I tried was to use the unicode EOL characer, which is
000A. I figured with was 10 in decimal notation, and so tried:
line 1
line 2
No go. What was wrong with my thinking here?

Hello,
I really, really, need some help here - I've spent hours trying to find a
solution.
In a nutshell, I'm trying to have a user input a value in form's
textfield. The value should then be assigned to a variable and output
using document.write.
(Note, there is no submit button or other form elements. Basically

Hi,
I'm currently adding a new module to an old borland C3.1 application
(dos).
And I need to calculate a date by subtracting the number of days from
a given date.
I know I could use an array of days in the months and go back by
leaping when 1 is reached. (keeping the 29the of feb and january/year
in mind).

Hi. I use the tilda ~ symbol to calculate URLs from the base of the
application when using Response.Redirect() eg.
Response.Redirect ( @"~\ResolveErrors\Resolve.aspx" );
But is there a way to pre-calculate the URL? I want to embed it in the page.
E.g. MyUrlString = URL.Encode (@"~\ResolveErrors\Resolve.aspx" );
Thanks!

Hello!
Whilst refactoring an application, I was looking at optimizing a
ModelFactory with generics. Unfortunately, the business objects created by
the ModelFactory doesn't provide public constructors (because we do not
allow developers to instantiate them directly).
Because our business objects are instantiated very frequently, the idea of
using reflection sounds like a performance killer (I haven't done any tests
on this, but the...

hey everyone
i try to figure out how to calculate string width in a textarea while
typing in it.
the textarea has a fixed start width. when the string gets longer as
the textarea width, the textarea should be made bigger while typing
programatically.
my only problem is to determine the size of the string in the textarea.
i know the font family and font size.

I have read in Bjarne Stroustrup that using malloc and free should be
avoided in C++ because they deal with uninitialized memory and one
should instead use new and delete.
But why is that a problem? I cannot see why using malloc instead of new
does not give the same result.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
