Handling session timeout between asp and asp.net

Hi all,

I am prett new in asp.net.
We have a project which has classic asp and asp.net scripts. Obviously
this project has a bin directory under the root directory. About 80% of
this project has been written in classic asp and 20% has been written in
ASP.NET. The login page is written in classic asp so when it creates
classic asp session I also create asp.net session so that when a user
access asp.net page, the session for asp.net will be there preventing
session timeout. Now the problem is if a user browses only in classic
asp pages for longer than the session timeout time I set for asp.net and
then tries to access asp.net page the timeout occurs.
Solutions could be

1. In every classic asp page, we call a page to refresh asp.net session

2. Set asp.net session timeout time to indefinite or ridiculously long
time (1 day or something)

Either of those doesn't sound very elegant, does it?

Is there any way of handling this situation nicely??

Thanks a lot in advance..

Hello, i'm struggling with a somehow badly understood session scenario. I provide acces to my pages based on form authentication using Session cookies. Som of my pages are supposed to be running continuously and refreshing once an hour. I there set timeout= 61 in <sessionState section and on my page it says <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3600">. I also set timeout=120 in the <forms section of web.config to make sure

I need to limit the session time for a particular user who is working on my site. I'd also like to extend the session time each time user performs some action (moves from one page to another). I've written the following code to accomplish this task /* Extending session */ if(isset($_COOKIE)) { setcookie ("username", $_POST, time()+3600); }

I have a page where the user can upload a video file. As you can guess, this may take a while. Is there a way I can change the session timeout for just this one page? I would also want to change the forms authentication to be a large value for that page also. TIA - Jeff.

Hello, Is there any way I can intercept the session timeout exception, and 1) Run some code routine, ie log the error and it's context 2) Show nicer output to the user Please do not suggest to increase the session timeout value, or write a code that doesn't loop. No fools here. There are possible contexts where I want to keep the session timeout reasonably low, but need to log the occasions, when it's hit, to rearchitecture those...

I run a Joomla website and am familiar with php in some but not all aspects. Currently I am trying to find some solutions related to session handling. Am I correct in saying that "login" is kept in sessions? I can see active sessions in my mysql database, but is that the only place this information is stored? Sessions and cookies I know are related also, but how specifically (session info stored in cookies?)? Right now, when users...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
