2 Questions: 1.) Can anyone think of a way to speed up this function? It is terribly slow. I plan to reduce the number of directories to 3, which I guess will speed it up in the end. 2.) This seems to be the brute force method, and I'm wondering if anyone can think of a better strategy. I've been asked to make life easy on graphic designers by not making assumptions about where I might find the files that the software might need to...

I have the following function which generates MD5 hashes for files on a local and remote server. The remote server has a little applet that runs from inetd and generates an MD5 hash given the file name. The problem is that it takes 2+ minutes to generate the MD5 hash, so this function takes about 5 minutes every time it is called. Since the first MD5 hash is generated on a remote machine, the local machine does nothing but wait for...

The war of the OSes was won a long time ago. Unix has always been, and will continue to be, the Server OS in the form of Linux. Microsoft struggled mightily to win that battle -- creating a poor man's DBMS, a broken email server and various other /application/ servers to try and crack the Internet and IS markets. In the case where they didn't spend their own money to get companies to

After working in c# for a year, the only conclusion I can come to is that I wish I knew c. All I need is Linux, the gnu c compiler and I can do anything. Web services are just open sockets hooked up to interfaces. The Gtk is more than enough gui.

Greetings - I have a number of websites that make use of popups spawned by a user clicking a link. Nothing fancy - here is typical code: <a href="popup.html" target="pop_win" onClick="msgWindow=window.open('','pop_win', 'resizable=no,width=600,height=300')"> click here</a>

I don't know about the rest of the posters, but I came to this NG to learn more about Access, not to have some idiot homophobic dipshit spewing hate with every post. You have nothing to add to this group that is remotely on-topic, so unless you're gonna learn Access do us a favor and get lost. Do you know how many Access MVP's post here? Do you know how much of their valuable time is spent helping people? I've had a number of MVP's...

I have a counter that evokes the "Three Strikes You're Out" rule.. if you make more than N mistakes it auto-resets to avoid flooding $_SESSION with attempt after attempt, etc. However, the counter never advances beyond 1! // HANDLE THE PART WHERE THE STUDENT INFORMATION WILL BE UPDATED OR SEARCHED if (is_array($_POST) && @sizeof($_POST) > 0) {

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
