Pls help with rgestry problems

This is off topic - however, I badly need to solve this problem.

A program has been installed in Program Files of an W98 machine.
Subsequently the program was removed from Program Files, not in the proper
way though, it was just deleted.

Trying to install a new version of the program, a message is returned to the
effect that the program already exists, which it does not.

Trying to remove the program with the the proper installer files in the
drive, a message is returned to the effect that the version is wrong (the
installer files do indeed refer to an upgraded version of the program).

Reinstalling W98 operating system didn't solve the problem. Nowhere in the
registry can I find any reference to the socalled installed program (which
isn't there any more).

I have regfix on file on the machine, but I don't know what it's parameters
should be and if it would solve the prblem. MSDN doesn't list regfix either.

How can this be overcome? Please help.
Apologies for being off topic.
Adrian.

Hi Adrian,

This is very off topic!

Maybe the program put some shared files somewhere and locating those
thinks it is already installed, or residues are still in the registry, but
under some unlogical name ...

You might want to try a better suited group like one of the
microsoft.publi c.windows*
PS, do not answer to this post, but try the windows groups.

Try regclean http://www.createwindow.com/wininfo/regclean.htm

Yes, I found it through Google, the free download didn't do the trick.
It seems I'm stuck with the problem. There might just not be an answer.

Thank you anyway.
Adrian.

Hi guys, Has anyone else had trouble with the latest releases of PHP in IIS (using the ISAPI module)? I updated our copies of PHP recently and very soon IIS became very unstable with the websites (both php4 and 5) not responding and even FTP not working. Restarting IIS would get them back temporarily but they'd fail soon afterwards.

I changed from Access97 to AccessXP and I have immense performance problems. Details: - Access XP MDB with Jet 4.0 ( no ADP-Project ) - Linked Tables to SQL-Server 2000 over ODBC I used the SQL Profile to watch the T-SQL-Command which Access ( who creates the commands?) creates and noticed:

With the body tag calling out 'window onload', a function with a 'window.open' fails at the 'window.open' line. If I cut out the body tag, the function executes as normal. At first I thought it was the entire function failing, but I tested with alerts and found that it was only the 'window.open' that fails to execute. The function is being called by a link, and I suspected some problem with the body alink/vlink but after cutting that out...

This works: db2 SELECT DISTINCT PROBLEM_OBJECTS.PROBLEM_ID FROM PROBLEM_OBJECTS INNER JOIN PROBLEMS ON PROBLEM_OBJECTS.PROBLEM_ID = PROBLEMS.PROBLEM_ID WHERE INTEGER(DAYS(CURRENT DATE) - DAYS(PROBLEMS.CLOSE_DATE)) = 365 AND PROBLEMS.CLOSE_DATE IS NOT NULL But this doesn't: db2 SELECT DISTINCT PROBLEM_OBJECTS.PROBLEM_ID FROM PROBLEM_OBJECTS

Hi All, I've recently installed a program written in Access 2000 on a laptop. The laptop had an existing Office 2000 Pro which of course included Access. But the program acts oddly (more oddly than I would have programmed, anyway). On everyday controls, everything acts normally. But on some controls (and they're always the same ones) the operator can't add or change data. Take a birthday field as an example. If the client was born...

Folks, We have a fairly busy web site present using PHP 5 to talk to a MySQL 5.0.45 DB on an Apache 1.3 series server. It's spread out over several physical hosts (one DB server), we use DB tracking of sessions and there is some transaction usage also. Right now we keep it simple using mysql_connect. I'd looked at mysql_pconnect a few years but got scared away by the warnings about problems. Somebody here wanted to revisit that

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
