If I use _reverse_ wildcard search will it always result in a table scan? Is it possible to get the DB (Oracle or SQL server) to use indexes when doing reverse wildcard match? let's say I have: table email_address (id int, email varchar) with the following entries

The Python slice type has one method 'indices', and reportedly: This method takes a single integer argument /length/ and computes information about the extended slice that the slice object would describe if applied to a sequence of length items. It returns a tuple of three integers; respectively these are the /start/ and /stop/ indices and the /step/ or stride length of the slice. Missing or out-of-bounds indices are handled in a manner...

It's a database keeping info about people and is expected to contain 20,000 to 25,000 people. I could put a GoToPerson Combo on the form, but the customer and I are not to keen on that. It makes finding a person difficult for casual users. I'm thinking of a pop-up search form that will allow some flexibility in searching and also display results in a subform (e.g. which J Smith). What do you think? --

Hi, Given a map: typedef map<long, string, greater<long> > mapOfFreq; Is there a quicker way to find the rank (i.e. index) of the elememt that has the long value of x? At the moment I'm iterating through the map and keeping count of when I hit it.

This line of code will make the Find method search for a search key in a given range if you search from top to bottom: m_form.richTextBox1.Find(searchKey, searchDownAreaStart, searchDownAreaEnd, RichTextBoxFinds.WholeWord | RichTextBoxFinds.MatchCase); I tried this code to make the Find method search from the bottom up (like, find the first instance of the word, starting from the bottom of the richTextBox and going to the first index of...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
