ADO.NET book & Timestamps

Hi NG,

I needed some information about using SQL Timestamps for resolving
concurrency errors. I bought the book: Pragmatic ADO.NET to aid me in this
endeavor. Some people have asked me if I found a book. This posting is
just to thank the people who responded. There is no need to respond further
to this posting.

Cheers,

Bob

Robert,

As you read the book, you might also want to check out the Data Access
Application Block for .NET, located at (watch for line wrap):

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ml/daab-rm.asp

It probably puts a lot of the things that you read into practice, as
well as possibly providing new insight into data access.

Hope this helps.

I am trying to pull a time stamp out of a database, looks like this 2004-06-24 10:12:03 . Then I need to substring it so that I can take a difference of 2 times. Basically I making a clock in/clock out script for my job. But I can't figure out the query and then how to substring the time so that I can do math with just the time part and not the date. Or if you guys/gals no if any code out there, were someone has written a script like...

This might be an idiot question, but how do you group by timestamps by date? I mean, given a large number of timestamps, spanning many months, how do grab them and say how many are from each day? If the timestamps measure visits to a web site, how to easily say there were 45 visits on January 4th? The first idea that occurs to me is to put them all in an array and then loop through the array and use date() on each, one at a time,...

Dear NG, I have not heard from anyone about a good book that deals with the concurrency issue in SQL Server using C#. I have PROMISED Nick I would not use record locking and I have used an old row / new row approach. (see next paragraph for my reply to Nick) I would like to use Timestamps and Transactions to produce an iron-clad and efficient application in a multi-user environment. Can anyone recommend such a book? OK Nick, I...

Hi, I need to code a DLL in .NET which logs the response times for our asp.net multi-tier application. The problem is we need to log the timestamps at multiple stages in a process lifecycle roundtrip without too much overhead. We have two webservers which are load balanced and the back end tiers include Biztalk and several remoting components all of which should ideally use this same dll for logging timestamps in a central location in...

Hi, I'm building a central logging system for security applications as my master thesis, but I've run into some troubles: Different applications make database logs using different formats: - Timestamps as timestamps or as numeric values - IP addresses in dotted notation (aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd) or as numeric values I'd like to convert these to the same type, so that I can compare them. Two

I'm writing a backend web app for a company that only has locations in the US. Why can't I, at login, pull their getTimezoneOffset() using javascript, cookie it, then when I need to show a local time compute the difference in their value in the cookie vs. my server's value? I've seen a million articles about factoring in DST, but when my server (which is in PA) switches to DST won't the difference value remain the same since everyone...

All, Just a quick question. I want to be able to have a data structure that organizes data (timestamps I'm working with) sequentially, so that i can easily retrieve the first x amount of timeStamps without iterating over a list. My thought was to use a binary tree, am i overthinking the problem to try and implement this structure inside of python? I was also hoping this would already be done for me. Regards,

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
