Daniel,

The easiest way to send messages/notifications to a windows service,
IMO, is to use remoting, and then just call the appropriate methods on the
proxy that you acquire when hooking up to your service. You will get a
familiar way to receive notifications (method calls), and you don't have to
worry about all of the plumbing in between.

Hope this helps.

Hiya. My CEO wants me to think about the direction the company's product should take. He has a bunch of guys offshore that develop with .NET, and he is keen to use them to build our product completely in a WAPI environment, completely web based. Presently we are using citrix to serve our clients a product that is developed in house using proprietry language, with a backend that is running on Linux using C-Isam (soon to be...

After many woes, I finally managed to get a stack dump of my System Service (written in C#) that insists on crashing when launched at system boot time (see below on how to get this dump - I couldn't find any info on how to do this). Here's the stack trace from cordbg: Unhandled exception generated: (0x04719c94) <System.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException> _className=<null> _exceptionMethod=<null>

Many of our apps are in production and they do not have proper error logging in them - unhandled errors are seen by the users in the form of error messages and stack traces. I know how to make apps handle their errors (global.asax.cs "application_error" event, web.config "customErrors" section, etc). But can I do this without having to visit each app? Can this be done at the machine level? I'm looking for a kind of machine-level...

Dear Colleagues: I feel that the dumbest questions are those that are never asked. I have been given the opportunity to get into .NET. Our organization has a subscription with Microsoft that basically entitled to us to just about every .Net development tool you can imagine. I cant even begin to mention them. To begin with, my background is not that of a programmer, but a systems engineer and the closest I have come to "programming"...

I am using VS2005 and ASP.NET 2 I want to use IIS to host some .NET remoting. I have a website I created called RemotingHost. I then added the built assembly to the bin folder on the RemotingHost website. I created a web config file with system.runtime.remoting wellknown service for the testclass as...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
