Closing modal dialog causes main window to flash/flicker

Hello and thanks for any help
I've noticed that my main application window has a bad Flash/Flicker sometimes when I close a modal dialog box. Sometimes it also loses focus, and gets placed behind another window that was not originally on top. I perform the dispose inside of the dialog, for instance when a user clicks on the Ok button as follows

private void okButton_Click( object o, EventArgs e

/*Perfrom some action*
this.Dispose()
Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks.

Have you tried calling Close() rather than dispose?

Thanks for the response Claire,

That seemed to do the trick and things close a lot cleaner. I guess the Close() methods forces a paint before other calculations are done or something. Well, either way, thanks alot.

Here is the problem: I have written a non-modal frame class in Java for displaying help text when a user is using an application. It works as desired in that if the user selects "help" again, the same frame is used -- this is done using a singleton. The user can do other stuff in the main window while the help window is up. However, when I have a modal dialog pop-up to get information from the user, it blocks events to the help...

have a 3rd party .Net dll that wraps a set of further unmanaged dll's. The ..Net DLL basically uses pinvoke to wrap the calls. The low level dlls provide an API to talk to a complex device which appears as a USB hub (with a scanner, flash drive and some other bits and pieces). Using a VB.Net windows app, we call the main unmanaged API function (lets call it doStuff() ) and then call messagebox.show to pop up a modal results dialog. This...

I get a Null Reference Exception if I close a non-modal dialog (that is, a form opened with Show()) when a selection is made from a ComboBox. The error message refers to Unsafe Native Methods, but the code is 100% managed. The exception is not thrown if the dialog was modal (opened with ShowDialog()) or if the selection is made from, say, a ListBox. I have included a simple example below. I am using C#.NET 2003, Standard Edition.

Hi NG, We have a rather large ASP.NET application that uses popups to display various dialogs to the user. In our work we've come over a rather annoying "bug": If we open a modal dialog using the javascript command window.showModalDialog() we loose the current Session if a new window is opend from within the modal one (using the window.open() method). The "funny" thing is that this only occurs if another instance of IE has been

I have a modal dialog that currently does all of the following except item 4. 1. lets users select a graphic from a list of thumbnails (and when selected, displays the full-size image in a preview DIV) 2. when users close the dialog, the application receives the URL to the selected graphic. 3. the modal dialog lets the users upload a new graphic if the dialog does not present them with one they are already happy with. 4. upon uploading...

For some reason, when I click the X to close my MDI parent form, the action appears to be re-directed to one of the MDI child forms, and the parent remains open. I am then unable to close the application. What should happen, is that the main MDI form should close, taking the child forms with it. There is code to loop through the child forms, remove the controls on each of them, and then close the form, but this code should execute only...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
