CSLA Framework - Opinions Please

I'm involved in an assessment of the CSLA Framework developed by Rockford
Lhotka. I would like to hear from anyone who has experience and opinions
regarding the viability and usefulness of this framework.

If Rocky wrote it...it's viable and useful.
Rocky Lhotka is one of the most respected .Net theorists.

For those unfamiliar with CSLA, here's the link :

http://www.lhotka.net/cslanet/

If what you need to do is manage/implement business logic, you'll find it an invaluable aid.
As with anything, whether it's good for you will depend on how much
effort you're willing to invest in a different way of doing things but,
don't worry about its foundations. CSLA has a good foundation.

There is an interview with Rocky on DotNetRocks. I'd listen to that. Coming
from his own mouth, you'll get a better understanding.

If I had custom business objects, and needed to bind them (or collections of
them) in a winforms application, then I would def use his framework.

(Aka, he takes care of alot of IEditableObject stuff for you).

The other (often not looked at) piece is something he calls the DataPortal.
I'd look at it, if you had any remoting or wcf intentions.

But his framework is a "all in" thing.

Get his book, and supplement (the supplement is only available at his
website).

But as far as his skills and what he wrote, its top notch stuff.

During the past 15 years I have been writing computer programs with so-called natural names, which means that the names (identifiers, symbols) in progarms are constructed of several natural words. I have even written a C++ book in which all programs are written with natural names. More information and free pages of the book can be found at http://www.naturalprogramming.com/cppbook.html I'm planning to produce similar books with the C#...

I wish to build a framework for our developers that will include a singleton pattern. But it can not be a base class because it has a private constructor and therefore can be inherit. I thought maybe a Template can be use for that, but C# does not support Templates (will be C# generics in mid 2005). Does anyone have a solution on how the singleton pattern can be written, in C#, as a framework/ infrastructure class, so users can use this...

I have been looking into a good object/relational framework solutions for my software application. Regardless CLSA is free, how does CSLA.NET framework compare to other O/R solutions? CSLA.NET http://www.lhotka.net/ eXpress Persistent Objects (easy to use, but seems it's not robust enough, e.g. doesn't even support nested transaction) http://www.devexpress.com/?section=/Products/NET/XPO

I'm trying to understand the concept of CSLA (and using it with n-tier), but I'm having trouble with it (even after browsing Lhotka's book). Let's say I have a webform (presentation) that will insert a product into the products table. My webform instantiates my Products class (business layer), and calls addProduct(a,b,c,d, ...). Products.addProduct creates and configures the SQLCommand to run the SP (data layer) that inserts to Products....

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
