Very weird problem upgrading an old app

dgk
We have a VS2003 app that we've had to make some changes for, and then
we copied the resulting dll to the production server. There is a login
screen that appears with no problem when the app is started. On some
of our users machines, clicking the image that triggers the postback
for the login works just fine. On others, nothing seems to happen.
Javascript does still work in that case because the validation
controls still work.

All the machines are XP, and the server is running 2000 Advanced
Server. We have a test machine, also running 2000 and all the machines
work fine hitting the new version on the test server. In fact, we
tried Firefox on one machine that did not work with the production
app, and it works as far as logging in. There are other issues because
the app was written for IE, but logging in works. IE is version 7.

If we reinstall the old version of the app, it works fine from all
machines. So something we did affected it, but we have no idea what.
No changes were made to the login page.

None of us were here when the app was written. It uses some Microsoft
codeblocks and Crystal Reports. We've pretty well gotten rid of the
Crystal Reports and are using SQL Reporting Services.

Right now we've fallen back to the old version but we're going to try
again with the new one tomorrow morning, if just to gather more data
on what is happening. That server is indeed very weird, as is the app
which lives in the IIS root directory instead of another virtual
directory. We tried moving it once and that didn't work.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Hi, I tried upgrading my version of PHP to 4.3.2 and now all of my pages are returning the following for nearly every variable: Notice: Use of undefined constant sopen - assumed 'sopen' in C:\Program Files\KeyFocus\KFWS\htdocs\obs\index.php on line 4 The 'undefined constant' 'sopen' (which is called by $_SESSION) is obviously an index to an array. But my pages are returning this error for

I have a simple php script to just send email.....When I first load the script in a browser...it sends 2 emails. Why?? The weird thing is then when I refresh the page, it send only one email...I can refresh the page a million times and each time it only sends 1 email. But its the first time the page is loaded (like I open a new IE browser and go to the script), it sends 2 emails (duplicates). The entire script is below: <?php $to...

Dear newsies, My ISP has offered to upgrade my servers from 3.23 to 4.1. I'm excited by the potential gains in performance, and the ability to write subqueries, but am wary of any forward incompatibilities. I have a mass of PHP code with MySQL throughout. I don't relish peeking into every file and making a determination of 'it should work' by eyeballs alone.

Hi, I have just used the import Wizard to import a VS 2003 app to VS 2005. I have a lot of work to do to enable it to compile successfully with all the errors and warnings it gave me, but as a starting point the compiler can no longer find the function as at the bottom of this posting, that was in the Global.asax.vb file. All the function does is give an easy / quick way of getting the application

Hi, I have to upgrade a number of databases from Access 2.0, Access 97 and Access 2000 to work in Office 2003. These databases contain a number of Forms coded with VBA as well as a number of Queries/Macros. The Microsoft web site says that Office 2003 will open databases created in these versions. However i have in the past upgraded databases from access 2.0 to 97

Alright, I wrote this program that is used throughout my entire company for the past 9 months. Now, we have deployed it to well over 100 machines. So my Sys Admin comes up to me today and tells me how a list box will not display any values that are bound to it, unless he clicks on another tab and then comes back (presumably calling a refresh). So for a test I went ahead and called refresh whenever the list box was clicked on, jsut...

My boss and I both have access 97 and access 2003 installed on our systems. Lately he has been having a lot of problems. Databases that won't close. The database looks like it closes but access will not. And other weird things...I just passed it off as just MS nothing new. Yesterday I asked him to look at a little project...nothing much of anything. I put it up on our server and he opened it and went into design view. Its a form with...

I have a "funny" after upgrading to .NET2.0. The following code is placed inside an unsafe method in assembly "A" System.Object myIUnknownObject = Marshal.GetObjectForIUnknown((System.IntPtr)m_someClass.MyProperty); SomeClass is declared public in assembly "B". MyProperty get is declared public and written in managed C++ (old syntax) like this.

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
