Disabling the session reset timeout for certain requests

Using Ajax .NET (or javascript) to auto-refresh some pages causes the
Session timeout to reset. In my application I have certain panels that
i would like to update every 10 seconds or so, but i don't want that
to affect the timeout of the session - i still want the session to
timeout after 20 min.

Basically, i would like to NOT reset the session timeout on certain
requests (even though they use the session information).

Is there anyway of doing this?

Mark

Hi all, Do you know how to reset session.timeout after user click to extend the session timeout? For example, default session.timeout is 20 mins and 2 mins before will ask whether extend working on the site or logout. Thanks

I want to write an apsx page that when loaded does not refresh Session.Timeout. It is going to be running in an iframe and refreshing every couple of minutes. example. User has 15 minutes left until session expires. iframe.aspx loads and session still has 15 minutes left. Is this possible? I was trying to grab session.timeout at the begininning of the page (init)

I wrote a asp.net app for a client to enter Purchase Requisitions for IT purchases (using Session variables). The users want the session timeout to be set to at least an hour because they are constantly interrupted when entering PRs. I know I can change it in the web.config but is there any cons to making the timeout that long or even longer? Another question, can the timeout be programmatically changed based on the user minimizing...

I have been using the default session state (InProc) and have found that I have been loosing my information after a period of time (normally 20 minutes). Is there anyway to find out how much more time I have on a session? If I do a refresh, does reset the session clock? Do you have have to go to another page to reset the session timeout or will a postback also do it? This is important as we have a few pages that a user

Is there a way to get a user control to remember its state across pages? I have a standard page layout I use with a header and footer as user controls. Each page uses the same layout by means of copy paste (I hear this will improve in ASP.Net 2 via master pages). When I navigate from one page to the next the header and footer user controls lose their state because they are effectively different instances of the user control. Is there...

Problem : I have a Web Server which is session enabled. I have a method within that server which if I call it repeatedly, it seems to forget the session every six re-tries, and all the data therein. Is there, perhaps, a time-out setting somewhere (one of the myriad) that I may have missed (although I have run this sometimes, gone for a cup of tea, and return, done a re-run and it has remembered the session data). I have noted that...

Hello, I've been reading that ASP.NET serialises (ie. processes one at a time) HTTP requests if two simultaneous requests need to access the same session state. It also makes note that ASP.NET tries to reacquire a lock on the session state every 1/2 second until the timeout is reached, and then it will forcibly release the previous users lock and take the lock for itself. What is this timeout figure?

I have a page where the user can upload a video file. As you can guess, this may take a while. Is there a way I can change the session timeout for just this one page? I would also want to change the forms authentication to be a large value for that page also. TIA - Jeff.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
