ASP.net trace debug output and write to text file

I have an ASP application which uses a COM object I developed. That object
uses OutputDebugStri ng as well as writing to a text file to trace internal
activity.

If I test my ASP page from Visual Studio, the trace file is written to and
trace output appears in the debugger.

HOWEVER, if I run my ASP file directly after installing it to my IIS, while
everything works, I don't get any text file written. I played around with
the calls from the global.asa and from my .asp pages and if I call invalid
methods, etc. then I get nice errors in my browser.

So, is there some feature of ASP that prevents, in a production environment,
a COM object from writing to a file? What is odd is that the COM object
doesn't appear to get any error or throw any exception when it is presumably
trying to write to my log file...

Also, even if I add System.Diagnost ics.Trace.Write Line() calls to my
global.asa and run an external debug capture utility, the output doesn't
show up. I tried enabling the debug flag in my web.config but that didn't
change either issue.

Thanks!

Hi, I have noticed that I can only see the output of "system.diagnostics.trace.write(..)" in the output window of the dubugger. which leaves me wondering, if these statements are left in the code in a release build, then where exactly can I see their output. Is it possible to write then directly to a file rather than the output window of the debugger. I am under the impression that objects of the system.diagnostics.trace class

I have installed visual studio .net and now i started to write the first few examples from the 70-315 book by Kalani. It looks like all server side code that i put between <% %> doesnt process from an aspx file. Even a page with <%@ Page Language = "c#" Trace="True" %> doesnt show the trace information. If i create an .asp file, the server side code between <% %> will process and display correctly on the page.

When Tracing in ASP.NET, the IIS process (on IIs5.1) is locking on the Trace file, and I can't read the trace file without restarting the IIS: Even the following does NOT work (how could I fix this??): System.Diagnostics.Trace.WriteLine(System.DateTime.Now.ToLongTimeString()+ "--" + dirException.ToString()); System.Diagnostics.Trace.Flush(); ((System.Diagnostics.TraceListener) System.Diagnostics.Trace.Listeners).Close();

Running DB2 v7 UDB ("DB2 v7.1.0.93", "n031208" and "WR21333") on Windows XP, I am unable to find out why the "Build for Debug" option within Stored Procedure Builder is not enabled on Java stored procedures. It is enabled for SQL stored procedures. It is possible to "Build" and "Run" the Java SPs, it just isn't possible to click on the "Build for Debug" option. Thanks for any help in advance. Michael

Does anyone have an example of an application that can connect to a running process and capture Trace.WriteLine calls like in SQL Server Profiler? I know that we can inherit from a TraceListener class to write to files, databases, etc..., but I would really like to attach to running .NET processes and get the results without any logging and instead capture the real-time results when troubleshooting.

Hi, I'm an MFC programmer and know little about .NET programming. Now, for some reasons, I'm developing an ASP .NET application... What I need to know is how to output into VS's Output Window like what MFC's TRACE macro does (during debugging). Could you please share your knowledge with me? Thanks in advance.

I am using Debug.WriteLine and Trace.WriteLine to output messages from a dll. This dll is used in an application. No matter whether i run the program in release mode or debug mode and whether i define/undefine DEBUG and TRACE compiler definitions, I still get the messages in the Output window. What might be the problem? Thanks Bob

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
