Hi folks,
I got a general question that I cannot find the answer for. Consider a
3-tier application architecture with a Web Service handling the
business layer (BL) logic. The BL provides the client the facility to
create/update/delete or query any given Employee account within the
system. Each employee has got a username/password pair that's supposed
to be stored in the *aspnetdb* database using the Membership API. The
question is that how a client is supposed to create an employee account
with one web method, and create a new user name with another web
method, *transactionall y* under a *stateless* web service???
[WebMethod] void CreateEmployee( Employee employee) { }
[WebMethod] void CreateUser(stri ng username, string password) {}
How am I supposed to keep the integrity of the system? Maybe, you
suggest the following WebMethod instead of those two:
void CreateEmployee( Employee employee, string username, string
password) {}
However, this introduces a new bunch of problems under the
UpdateEmployee/DeleteEmployee and the like methods.
What should be done to handle the issue rationally?
Thank you for your time,

I have some experience with .NET Remoting, as well as ASP.NET 2.0, and
have been wanting to remote a custom membership and profile provider.
I want to take advantage of the new controls in ASP.NET 2.0 such as
Login, Loginuser, Loginview, etc.
The ASP.NET provider model requires entries in the web.config for a
'connectionStringName', which I understand is utilized to connect to
the data source.
Problem is the client machine (machine A)...

Hi
An app that was chuntering away quite happily to itself had roles
added to it. Just two: Admins and Subscribers.
However, I seem to have mucked up when assigning the role provider in
the Web.config file, as I just left the default, whereas in members,
this was modified to use our online database (details below).
The pernicious effect was two fold:

Hi All,
I have a situation where I am using a login control to log a user in to
my web app.
Under the LoginButton_Click handler of the login control, I retrive some
custom user information from the database.
Based on this information, the situation may arise where I want to log
the user out automatically even if a valid username/password has been
entered in the login control.

There are tons of articles about custom role and provider membership,
but they just tear me apart and confuse :(
The situation is following: I use DB2, so I wrote custom role +
membership providers.
Membership provider seems to work. I use forms authentication, so as
articles say, I need to do some magic to be able to get roles for
current user, because microsoft mechanism works only for windows
authentication...

Hi all,
I have create a simple ASP.NET site that uses the ASP.NET Membership
components. It uses a SQL Server as a provider.
The application works fine when it's running on my own machine.
After I publish the site to a remote webserver and recreate the database
over on the remote site, the permissions on the folders are gone.
I can succesfully log on, log off, and do all the 'normal' membership stuff,

Hello --
I need to write an ASP.NET 2.0 application for our clients to use to login
and verify file transmissions. Each client will need their own logon, in
addition to a way to assign each user a unique customerid. All users
beloning to the same custeromid would see the same information on the
website.
Can I easily do this using membership services or must I use a combination
of membership services and profiles?

In web.Config I use Form Authentication and define both providers as my default membership and role providers (I have implemented both providers in different class) now.. In Authorization section of web.config, i specifically state only allow roles = A, B . and i also specify for membership provider the name of the application of this web...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
