Howdy,
I want to know how to tell if a forked process is done.
Actually, my real question is that I want to run a shell script inside
of a python script, and after the shell script has finished running, I
want to do more stuff *condition* on the fact that the shell script
has finished running, inside the same python script.
The only way I can think of is to fork a process and then call the

If I follow the steps on
http://www.dhtmlcentral.com/tutorials/tutorials.asp?id=11 to add .js
files to a document on demand, let's say by <body onload="blah();">, how
can I reliably tell that it has been loaded?
BTW, I'm doing this for several .js files (and I don't always know how
many I'll be loading), so I need to check them all.
If I code for IE, I can check all the document.scripts.readyState
values (not being "uninitialized" or...

I have a program that runs scripts. If the user types "script
myScript.dat" the program will grab commands from the text file, verify
correctness, and begin executing the script UNTIL...
I need a way to stop the execution with user input. I was thinking
something like this:
while(user hasn't pressed 'any key'){
keepExecutingScript();

Hi
What is the recommended way to store a user's database credentials across
the pages of a web application so that each time the database is accessed the
system doesn't have to ask them for their username and password again
We have previously stored these in a session variable (encrypted) and
retrieved from their - but are worried about the impact on performance if the
number of users increases.
Had thought about cookies but worried...

Hi,
I want to have an array/arraylist of a user defined class. This class just
holds a number of queue collections.
For efficiency I want my arraylist/array to be type safe to avoid
boxing/unboxing.
I was wondering what is the best way to achieve this. I know my
arraylist/array will hold only one type of data(i.e. instances of my user

hi
i have a php site which allows users to save a cookie on their
computer which stores their user id details and allows them to auto-
login.
i'm wondering whether this is safe, is it possible for a malicious
user to find that cookie and change its value and therefore auto-login
as someone else? and if so how can this be prevented?

MS VS 7.0 happily resolves by SmartPointer and Inheritance, but I got
to use another target compiler and it does not accept user conversion
for templates. Can I forced a recast somehow? I have judiciously
checked almost all constructs with both compiler before coding, but
during a heavy session, I forgot to check the user conversion part,
and now, I am stuck big time :(
So here is my user conversion for a smart pointer class (direct...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
