accessing strongly typed properties of a Datatable when binding through the ObjectDataSourc e and Container.DataI tem

Hi all, hope you are well.(not sure if this posted the first time)

I would like to know if I can access the strongly typed properties of my
datatable when binding through the ObjectDataSourc e object.

I am currently creating some hyperlinks in a repeater bound to an
objectdatasourc e with the following code:

<asp:HyperLin k runat="server" ID="HyperLink1 " NavigateUrl='<% #
string.Format(" ~/Products.aspx?p age=0&categoryI d={0}",
((System.Data.D ataRowView)(Con tainer.DataItem ))["CategoryId "] ) %>'
Text='<%#
((System.Data.D ataRowView)(Con tainer.DataItem ))["Name"] %>' />

or in particular:

((System.Data.D ataRowView)(Con tainer.DataItem ))["CategoryId "]

This is as my ObjectDataSourc e is bound to a CategoriesBLL object that
returns a TypedDS.Categor iesDataTable and as far as I know the
ObjectDateSourc e does an implicit cast to a DataView making every
Container.DataI tem a DataRowView.

But although the above code works I though that one of the points of
strongly typed objects was to do compile time checking on column/property
access and therefore thought that I thought I should be able to do something
like:

((TypedDS.Categ oryRow)(Contain er.DataItem)).C ategoryId

But this complains at runtime with: "Unable to cast object of type
'System.Data.Da taRowView' to type 'CategoryRow'"

and

((TypedDS.Categ oryRow)((System .Data.DataRowVi ew)Container.Da taItem)).Catgeo ryId

complains at compile time with: "Cannot convert type
'System.Data.Da taRowView' to 'TypedDS.Catego ryRow'"

am I missing something or is this not possible?

Cheers

John

I have a strongly typed dataset that returns two tables - "items" and "itemdetails". In the strongly-typed dataset designer, I've created a link (relationship) between the two tables based on a foreign key. I want to put them into a nested repeater, but I'm having problems finding a "nice" way of doing it. Can someone please point me in the direction of a tutorial or best practice to achieve this?

Good Monday Morning: I am at a dead stop and I am hoping some other developers out there can help me out. I have built a dataset that first contains a table populated from SQL Server then I am adding another table that is built from the same Query and data from active directory. I have built a parent/child relationship and see all the data under my locals when debugging. Where I am having the problem is displaying the data from the...

Accessing Items in a Collection works with the as suggested by Kevin and Chris (thx) But when i tried to use the same technic with databinding within the aspx file, it doesn't seem to work. This is the aspx part that i am talking about <asp:DataGrid id="dgThreads" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <Columns> <asp:TemplateColumn HeaderText="Databases"> <ItemTemplate>

Hi, My GridView has templated controls in it and I'm binding to an ObjectDataSource. The problem is it refused to bind to my grid column "ColumnName" which is also an UpdateCommand Parameter for the ObjectDataSource. It displays the following error "DataBinding: 'System.String' does not contain a property with the name 'ColumnName'. I've also cheched it with FormView and that is not binding either. same error.

I use the following code for a strongly typed arraylist and it works great. However, I was wondering if this is the proper way to do it. I realize that if I want to implement sorting of the arraylist then I have to handle this with a sort method that uses comparer. I can reference the properties of the Arraylist directly such as dim mylist as new FrameList mylist.Add(new FrameStructure) mylist(0).first = "blabla..." mylist(0).second...

My code dynamically adds template fields to a GridView control. Everything seems to work OK, except when updating, because I haven't found a way to reference the dynamically added textboxes. FindControl doesn't work, and the textboxes cannot be accessed using grid.Rows.Cells.Control. Can someone help? Thanks, Keith

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
