Force .doc to be open by Word

fab
Hi,

I'm developping a web-application on an intranet.
I've got a datagrid with a button on each line. Each line represents a
document (MS Word doc). These documents are on a share so that they
can be saved directly on the file server.

When i click on this button, it opens another windows with the word
document linked to the line.
But this document is open into the browser ; so i'd like the document
to be open by MS Word (in order to have all the toolbar and menus of
MS Word) so that i can modify and save it.
The most surprising is that when i cut/paste the address of the doc in
the IE address bar (\\myFileServer \myFolder\myDoc .doc) it open MS
Word...

How can i do to open MS Word with the address of my share ?

Thanks in advance.

This is a default behavior of IE and Word. You can get around the
situation by either modifying the client settings or using script.

The following article explains both:

Dear all, I have a database in which one column is titled 'force'. Now that this has become a reserved word, virtually no commands will execute, including of course a query to change the column name. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, James Boulter

This is Access/Office 2003. I'm generating a Word doc, using a template, and attaching it to an email message. When the users get the message and open the attached doc by double-clicking in the Outlook message window, it defaults to some weird Web view. Can I force the Word doc to open in Page/Print layout view? --

Hi, I am using COM interop to invoke MS word from my .net app. If word pops up a dialog box, my thread obviously hangs until the dialog is answered. Here's the problem: because the app is running on a server, there is nobody there to answer the dialog, so I have another thread that calls Abort() on the first thread in the event that the operation doesn't complete within a certain amount of time.

Is there a way or method to make a file be saved to the computer instead of being opened on the web? we wrote a web client messaging system that uses SSL on our server and when you open a word doc as an attachment it of course opens in the browser... we want to force the user to save it to the computer (at the least give them a dialog asking what they want to do with it) instead of just opening it right to the browser... any way to do this?...

I have an app that is going to run overnight to create a Word template. This will contain names and addresses from a central database stored as AutoText entries. My plan is to map all users Word startup folders to the folder where I'll drop that file so that the AutoText is accessible by everyone. But.... if any user leaves Word running then that file will still be in use and when I attempt to update it the next night then it's going to...

I copy it to a location where it can be accessed by all my clients. This gets run overnight. Does anyone have a way of forcing a close of any open...

I am using the following code. When outlook opens the message and the Outlook HTML editor is the default editor, there is no problem. If Word is the default editor, however, it butchers up the HTML and the message looks like crap. How can I force the message to open in the Outlook HTML editor? Thanks, Scott Dim myOlApp As Object Const olMailItem As Integer = 0

Ok, I am looking for way to have a user download a file, and have it open the apprpreate client side application. For instance lets say a user is downloading an MS Word file. I want the user to get the dia log box asking them if they want to open, or save the file. If they click open I want the file to open in MS Word, but outside of the browser instead of inside the current frame. I am aware of the options for playing with the MIME...

If auto-format is turned off in VS2008, there is apparently no way to indent a line. Under Tools->Options->Text Editor->C#->Formatting, there are three checkboxes. Unchecking those seems to cause this behavior. I'd simply like to have the tab key insert a tab at the beginning of a line. I believe that there were publlished macros for doing this in earlier VS versions, but I expected this to be 'fixed' in VS2008. Yes, I realize someone...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
