Hi,
I am using .net remoting technology. I set up a .net remoting client and
server in IIS. When the client calls the server, the server will run a long
duration method (30-60seconds). I have a test on it that if the network
broken at the time the client have already send the remoting request and
waiting for the server, the client side will wait infinitely by default,
even if i already set the executionTimeout to 90seconds in...

How can I access the request and response object for a page using
javascript. I want to stick some data on with something like
request.setAttribute( "User's choice for later use" ).
I can't seem to find a reference to request or response objects in
JavaScript either in Google Groups or O'Reilly's "JavaScript the Definitive
Guide" (surely it should be in the latter, huh?)
I know I could use a hidden form element but the data would be a...

i've got a client that wants to be able to review records about IIS
generated emails.
in his own words, he wants the "ability to track and report message status
(i.e. how many messages were sent successfully, how many were blocked, how
many bounced back with an incorrect address)"
i'd start by adding a new row containing the email address, dateTime, etc
when first sending the email, but how to track the rest of the info? for...

DropDown lists and Listboxes do not appear in the list of controls and
values passed back to the server on PostBack in Request.Form object. Can
someone confirm this to be correct and possibly answer why ?
The impact of this is that values added via javascript will never make it
back to the server side code unless one does some jiggery pokery with hidden
fields etc. If this is true, then I would like to understand the reason
behind the...

I have a working client-side Vb.Net (.net v1.0) app that talks to a Webspere
webservice on a windows 2000 server. The client side app runs on a citrix
server, also a Windows 2000 server. The app worked ok till I installed .Net
v1.1 on the citrix, now I get an error when I get the app to use .NET v1.1.
If the app uses .NET v1.0 (with .NET v1.1 stalled), then its ok, however I
must use v1.1 for other reasons.
Has somebody come across...

I have client side code that uses xmlhttp to make an asyncronous call to the
server. This call really churns the server and can take a couple of minutes
to finish. I have found that while this long call is processing, I can not
make any more requests to the server from the same session. I found this
because if I have two completely separate instances of IE, they will not
block each other, but if I do a File/New to spawn a separate...

Hi,
I have hosted my webservice at a hosting company and it has been working
fine for 2 years now. The webservice is called by winforms clients over the
internet, using the proxy class generated by visual studio.
What I do not understand, however, is that sometimes (say 1% of all calls)
are being executed twice on the server side. I notice that because each call
makes an entry in the database. This problem has been around as long as...

Hi,
I'm writing Javascript code to parse out a query string. I want to
handle the case where a parameter value may not be sent.
So consider a parameter called "State". If the user doesn't pass that
in if I do this:
var state = <%=Request.QueryString%>
This returns an undefined object that I can't seem to do any checks

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
