I am having a hard time with setting a property on a custom server
control that i am placing in a repeater. The control inherits from
DropDownList. The property is being set in the repeater using the
DataBinder.Eval method. I can write that value out to the screen,
however, it is not available to the control. I think it is a problem
with the databinding of the repeater making data available to the
custom control too late.

Is it possible to do a vary by param - on a Session Variable, so the page
caches when a Session variable stays the same, but refreshes when the

Hey everyone,
I am curious what the performance impact of a custom control would be if it
had a significant hierarchy of children. For example, 40 child controls, 5
levels deep, each control on average has 20 properties. What would be the
best way to implement such a thing?
The book I am reading uses templated controls and basically reconstructs the
entire hierarchy everytime page is accessed based on the tags in the .aspx

- Build a XML document at user's first visit of the page from a DB's data
- Cache this document so that there's no need to buit it again. The document
would stay cached as long as the user would stay logged in.
- This cached XML would be used by a custom control in several pages

I have a Custom Control which inherits from GridView.
I call it GridViewSort and it is in a namespace "PDS.WebControls".
I add it to the Toolbox, drop it on my WebForm and it shows up and
works fine. But when I define a skinID for this Custom Control, I am
getting an error when it compiles.
I tried adding the Register directive in the skin file but that doesnot
help.

How can I access the same Cache from *within* a custom composite Web server
control I'm writing (that lives in it's own assembly) that is dynamically
