STYLE Tag Errors in ASP.NET 2.0

Okay I am really confused here. I understand that Microsoft created
stricter rules on the HTML source in the new release of VS 2005 but here is
my situation and I really don't know where to go. I have an application
with 3rd party controls and they create STYLE tags in their perspective
areas. The new rule states STYLE tags should only exist in the HEAD tag and
I understand that but I do not have control over where a purchased component
places this tag so when I switch to source view I can't get back to design
mode without the dreaded message, "Can not switch to Design mode. Please
correct errors". Well there are not any errors and I have tried turning off
validation and everything else without any luck. Can anyone please tell me
how to work on my application in VS 2005 without destroying and recreating
the web form every time?

Thanks,

Matt

I'd say the developer of the control has to rewrite the control to conform
to CSS specifications.

I've noticed all of the HTML in the VS2005 source is squiggled with red
underlines indicating conflicts with XHTML 1.0 Transitional yet it is VS2005
itself that is emitting the invalid HTML into the IDE. This is very
distracting and I have no idea how to resolve at the moment.

I've read articles like Scott Meyer's EC++ (Item 22) that advocate the use of references when passing parameters. I understand the reasoning behind using references--you avoid the cost of creating a local object when you pass an object by reference. But why use a reference? Is there any inherent advantage of using a reference over using a pointer? My workplace discourages the use of pointers when it comes to parameter passing. They...

1. I was having a discussion with somebody and I think it's just religious. We are developing some software and he was looking through my code. I use if (pointer) to test a pointer for NULL. He says it must be if (p!=NULL). The arguments are that it's more readable and that if (p) is not portable. I said the first is a style issue and that I think if(p) is more readable and that the second is plain wrong. So, is he right about the...

The company where I work as a Senior Software Engineer is currently revamping their (1991 era) "Programming and Style Guidelines", and I'm on the committee. The company, in business for over 20 years, writes medical software, which must ultimately pass FDA approval and ISO 9000 certification. The product the document applies to is a large system, (just over 3 million lines of code) running on a variety of platforms (all Unix-ish), and over...

I've written a piece of code that uses sockets a lot (I know that sockets aren't portable C, this is not a question about sockets per se). Much of my code ended up looking like this: if (function(socket, args) == -1) { perror("function"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } I feel that the ifs destroy the readability of my code. Would it be

Hi! The question of type checking/enforcing has bothered me for a while, and since this newsgroup has a wealth of competence subscribed to it, I figured this would be a great way of learning from the experts. I feel there's a tradeoff between clear, easily readdable and extensible code on one side, and safe code providing early errors and useful tracebacks on the other. I want both! How do you guys do it? What's the pythonic way? Are...

I've always been a little sketchy on the differences between static, dynamic, and reinterpret casting. I am looking to clean up the following block by using C++ casting instead of the C style casting. from what I am reading, I should use reinterpret cast in this situation, is that correct? Why does static and dynamic casting fail me? // please excuse the windows types, it is necessary in this code, // but the question remains C++ related

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
