How to deal with exceptions in inline code

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to deal with exceptions in inline
DataBinder code? For example, I want to convert a string to a date type,
but the string may contain non-date strings in rare occasions. This will
throw an invalid cast exception.

Any suggestions?

Do the conversion before the render, and bind to the result.

On the .aspx:

<%# YourConversionM ethod( DataBinder.Eval (Container.Data Item,
"YourColumn ") )%>
and in the CodeBehind:

protected string YourConversionM ethod(object item)
{
// cast, do whatever contitional processing you need to,
// and return a string for output.
}

Does anyone know what is the way IE treats span tags(<span>) and table tags(<tr>, <td>)? Should the <span> tag be encolsed in tds and trs if it placed with other elements that are in a table? Can the span tag itself contain table tags within it? I have some scripting code and when I wrap the span in table elements it does not find the html within the span. Here is an example.... <tr><td colspan="4" align="left"><span...

Understanding and Using Exceptions (this is a really long post...only read it if you (a) don't know what try/catch is OR (b) actually write catch(Exception ex) or catch{ }) The first thing I look for when evaluating someone's code is a try/catch block. While it isn't a perfect indicator, exception handling is one of the few things that quickly speak about the quality of code. Within seconds you might discover that the code author...

Whats the point of making functions which take arguments of a form like "const char *x"? It appears that this has no effect on the function actually working and doing its job, ie, if the function doesn't write to x, then it doesnt seem like the compiler could care less whether I specify the const part. Quite the opposite, if one uses const liberally and then later goes back and changes the functions, headaches will inevitably occur as...

I know that WebRequest.GetResponse can throw WebException from internet tutorials. However in the MSDN docs: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.webrequest.getresponse.aspx It only lists NotImplementedException in the Exceptions section. (Note that it does mention WebException in the Remarks section, but who knows if this is always the case for such classes, and thus perhaps they can't be trusted to always list these, and...

Hi Edwin, Filemask is obvious as it is assigned in the python code itself. It is "%file%". The idea is that the file clicked is substituted for the "%file%" by the replace action. The file that needs to be substituted is a simple file on disk. Here is a dump of the file and it's characters. I do understand that it is not in the range of ASCII but how can I make it so that it will work?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
