best practice with intranet security and menu structure

Here goes the scenario..
The intranet is using windows Auth integrated wih Active Directory.
Which is fine and all the appropriate Roles/Groups are set.
When a user clicks on a button on a page he/she is prompted and logs on and
authorisation takes place
and he gets redirected to the page depending on the GROUP/ROLES they belong
to in the active directory.
On the pages they have treeview webcontrol as a menu structure and the
Datasource is an XML file.
But the thing is each of the pages has got a different XML because they
don't want them to see the same links(menu).
And in that case its very difficult to maintain because anytime they want to
change the MENU structure they
have to go to each XML file and change it.
What would be the best way to have one XML file with all the links and pass
the right links(data to the Treeview menu) to the right page based on the
seurity GROUPS/ROLES from the active directory
That means when the user logs in and based on the GROUP he belongs to from
the active directory the right XML(Datasource) gets populated to the
Treeview Menu structure.
Any ideas or anyone done something similar?

Simple question... which is better to use for defining font sizes and why? px and em seem to be the leading candidates. I know what the general answer is going to be, but I'm hoping to ultimately get some good real world examples. Fire away! :) Regards, Peter Foti

http://www.JavascriptToolbox.com/bestpractices/ I started writing this up as a guide for some people who were looking for general tips on how to do things the 'right way' with Javascript. Their code was littered with document.all and eval, for example, and I wanted to create a practical list of best practices that they could easily put to use. The above URL is version 1.0 (draft) that resulted. IMO, it is not a replacement for the FAQ,...

I'm trying to get a feel for what most people are doing or consider best practice. Given a mod_perl application talking to a PostgreSQL database on the same host, where different users are logging onto the web server using LDAP for authentication, do most people 1) have the web server connecting to the database using its own user account (possibly through ident), and controlling access to different database entities strictly through...

I am using the "contract first" design methodology. Contract First is design the WSDL first then design the server and client. However I must design my XSD/XML Schema before anything. I am developing my schema now. I have a version on my schema. However once I start the server side code, how is the server now that the right "complexType" is being passed? What happens if this complexType my web service consumes needs to be...

Hi all, I am pretty new to asp.net; I've done lots of classic asp, but am just beginning to get my mind wrapped around .net. What I'd like to do is include some code that tests if a user is logged in, on each and every page, and redirects the user to a login page if s/he's not logged in. The login page will also take care of some standard setup, such as choosing/populating a user profile. I used to use <!-- #include ... --for this,...

All, I have a menu which contains Category as the master and Product as the child. When I click on a Category in the menu, I want one formView control, fvpc, to show, and then when I click on a Product, I want a different formview, fvp, to show. Is it best to have the two forms on separate pages, productView.aspx

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
