Hi there,
Since you've all told me that frames ar evil, I'm planning to disguard
frames in favour of CSS "pseudo-frames" for my personal website.
While trying to "emulate frames" (that is I want a 2 column layout,
with the menu in the left column) I came up with this:

I am programming ASP.NET using C#.
I have been accessing static variables accross my entire application but now
need to change some of the static variables that are session specific to
instance variables.
(For more background, see previous post about 30 min ago)
It was so cool using static variables because they where global to the
entire application so I could calculate them when the page loaded and use
then anywhere in the app. Now...

Hi,
I'm new to .NET and have a question about the use of static variables vs.
session variables in a web form in C#.
Instead of using a session variable to hold a string to persist during
datagrid paging. Can I use a static variable? Also, if I use a static
variable is that variable shared by everyone that brings up the aspx page?
Ex, if 4 people are viewing the aspx page is an instance of the static
variable created for each of the...

I have a problem, mentioned here before, of Session and Application
variables disappearing at one site but not at others or on my development
computer.
The problem is illustrated by an example at
http://www.lamartin.com/dotnet/sessiontestset.aspx, were I set Session,
Application and Cache variables on the first page and then on the second
page view them as the second page is refreshed every five seconds. Before
10 refreshes, the...

What is the scope of static variable when programming in ASP.NET?
For example I have a control class that uses static callbacks so that another window can pass a list of items to it. The control doesn't have access to this other object so needs to subscribe to the static callback. As such the static callback then needs to get hold of the real control instance which it can do via a member vaiarble which is set to the instance of the control on...

Hello,
I'm having a strange problem. I've got a .NET web app which uses Session
variables. Sometime, not all the time, they get cross threaded...that
is...one user will have another user's Session variable(s) data assigned to
them. I can't figure out why. I've read that other people are having this
problem too but I haven't found a resolution yet. Can someone please tell me
how I might go about fixing this?
Thanks

Hello,
What do you think about emulating private variables for a class this
way?
function Something() {
var private;
Something.prototype.getPrivate = function() { return private; }
Something.prototype.setPrivate = function(newPrivate) { private =
newPrivate; }

Hi clever people :-)
I've noticed a lot of people stating not to use static variables with
ASP.NET, and, as I understand it, the reason is because the variable is
shared across user sessions - which is Very Bad (tm) for reasons I
understand!
However, does this rule apply only to global static variables, or does
it apply to procedure-level static variables.

If you know languages like Python or D you know, that nested
functions can be really handy.
Though some compilers (looking at GCC) provide the extension of
nested functions, I wonder, how one could implement an
equivalent behaviour with plain C (in this case I'm thinking of
the language I'm developing, which shall be converted into C for
target compilation). So far I didn't touch the topic "nested
functions", since I just don't see an...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
