Best method to redirect randomly at 10:1

Hi

We are conducting a test with our website.
We are going to redirect every 1 in 10 visitors to a new default homepage to
determine the effectiveness of this page.

I'm looking for ideas on how to do this.

1 thought i've already had:

Everytime a visitor comes to the site, i can hold an application
variable with a number in it, and increment it by 1.
When that gets to 10, i can send that user to the test default page, and
reset the app variable back to one.

Any other ideas, or better methods.
Or even problems with this potential method.

Thanks for any help on this

Hi Grant:

You can roll the dice with the Random class. The Next method will give
you a random number, inside of a range if you wish. Based on this
number you could decide if you want to redirect. This approach would
be more random than redirecting every 10th request.

I have some issues with HTTP Headers and I was hoping for some pointers or references to good articles. Here is the problem. I have 6 .aspx pages, each page contains a common .ascx. This ascx serves two purposes, 1. it contains a tab strip with response.redirects to navigate to the other pages; 2. I authenticate the user by check to see if a cookie exists, if it doesn't I redirect to a login screen.

I know this issue has been brought up many times, but I have tried many of the solutions to no avail. I wanted to give my specific case to see if someone could be of any help. We are using the sessionstate inproc mode and users are randomly losing their session. I do not believe it is happening across all users at one time. It seems to happen to different users at different times, but I am only going off heresay. The aspnet worker...

I'm trying to implement a simple server-side form validation (No Javascript). If the user submits a form with errors, I want to redisplay the same form with the errors highlighted. Once the form is correct I need to submit to another page that uses the form data. I first tried making the form submit action= field point to the same file. When the form was correct, I tried loading the next page by using <META http-equiv refresh>. But...

I'm currently work'n on a project where I'm dynamically generating some HTML as text into a string builder. My ASP page has a <span> tag on it and after I gernerate HTML to my string builder I concat all the strings and set the span's innerHTML property to this output. What I'm wondering is if this is the best way to do this or is there a better method to take a bunch of strings and dump them out onto an ASP page so it shows up as...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
