Reading values from a Word document...

Stu
Hi,

I have a web app that needs to receive freight booking in MS Word format.
There are a number of tables in the docs that contain the relevant data
(origin/destination etc.).

Can someone please point me in the right direction for the most reliable way
of doing this.

Also, do I need Word installed on the server or can I get away with a few
ddl's / runtime files?

Thanks in advance,

Stu

Hi Stu,

You need a third-party component like this one. You won't need Word on the
server.

Some people try to automate Word on the server, but since you said
"reliable" that wouldn't fit.

Holy crap - US $1,495.00!!!! You could run a dedicated server with office on
for that money!

Aspose looks much better for only $495 - about the same as a copy of office.

Thanks for the pointer anyway.

HELP! I am determined to stick with this... I'm getting there... for those who haven't read my earlier posts, I'm createing what should be a simple function that I can call to check that required fields in a form have values. I'm writing the values to the client using document.write only so that I can confirm that the values are there to be played with - this is not the final result so please (unless it's leading to the script failure)...

Hi all, I posted the same question this afternoon but my message isn't showing up, so I thought I'd give it another try.... in case you should see it later I apologize for posting the same question twice! Here it is: I am having problems reading the value of a text Node. I think it has to do with the fact that the text is in a <span> tag. I have a table and in each <td> I have text + a checkbox. I want to retreive the text next to the...

I'm trying to process a collection of text files, reading word by word. The program run hangs whenever it encounters a word with an accented letter (like rôle or passé) - ie something that's not a "char" with an ASCII code in 0..127 I've searched the ANSI C++ standard, the internet and various text books, but can't see how to workaround this one. I've tried wchar_t and wstring without success. But rather than spending lots of time on...

I am working(vb.net03and05) with word documents stored in a sql db and I am currently bringing them from a byte array into a temp file to pop into word and make word do its thing as a com object. Is it possible to go straight from a byte array to document in word instead of a temp file? Also is there a way to change the save behaviour to notify my app to pickup a binary copy of the file or stream to save back to the sql db. Thanks in...

I'm porting an application from Apache Xerces to .Net and am having a couple of small problems with deserialization. The XML that I'm reading comes from a variety of sources, and there are two inconsistencies that Xerces is able to handle that XmlSerializer seems not to be able to deal with. 1) Some of the boolean values that I'm dealing with are "True" and "False" rather than "true" and "false". I'm not quite sure whether "True" and...

Hi all, I currently have a VB.NET application that interfaces with Word 2003 to produce documents from templates substituting the data in the template to form the document. This is all working including substituting images. However it is very slow as it uses the Word Object model to directly control the word.searchreplace function. I am now trying to change what we have so that it does the substitution in

I am new in this area. I want to use values in a Access database and pass them to a word document. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
