Layering Images in ASP.Net 1.1

Hello,

I am working on a configurator application that needs to have a changing
visual representation of the product being configured. I have a base image
representing the 'core' requirements for the product and the user is able to
select from a variety of optional equipment.

I need to be able to overlay the base image with the corresponding images
for each selected option. This is an asp.net solution for the .Net framework
version 1.1.

Basically, I'd like to select an option, post back to generate the
appropriate image (by overlaying on image on top of the other(s)) and display
the resulting page. Can anyone point me to sample code or a useful tutorial
in this regard?

thanks,

You'll have to dynamically generate images on the server using the GDI APIs.
There's a MSDN article on this (for things like PieCharts) here:

alternatively, if you have a controlled user space (ie, you know exactly
what browser they will be using and if they have javascript or not) you
could do this on the front-end as well using transparent GIFs and layered
and positioned divs.

I imagine this is also doable via a Flash interface.

Your suggestion is kinda what I had in mind, however, I'm not sure how to
implement it. Can you provide me with a link to a basic implementation of
this concept or a sample solution? I am hoping to avoid using a flash
interface - the business team doesn't want to require a flash install to use
the solution.

Off the top of my head, you'd do something like this:

- create your images in a image-editor with layers (like photoshop or
fireworks).
- export all your layers as transparent gifs.
- Then, you can simply layer them in your web page by using relative
positioning and z-index css attributes. Ie, position every image at the same
x/y coordinates, but give them all different z-indexes.

Then, just turn off/on each layer as needed either via javascript, or do a
postback and just write out the specific images in the HTML.

Here is a site it works on because the slide shows were created differently:...

Hi, I'm trying to build a camera control menu bar for a web application. I've gotten everything to work in IE6/7 but Firefox as a little bug. Actually, it's probably IE that handles it incorrectly but does what I want it to do, but you get the idea. I have 3 divs.

Hi, can anyone give me a hand. I'm currently displaying 4 random images at the top of a page. I did this using an array of 35 pictures and then writing them to page. The problem I have is that in theory you could get the same image 4 times. I quite often get 2 of the same picture come up. What's the easiest way of saying "once an image is assigned to a variable, take it out of the array"? Here's my code so far.. images = new Array(34);...

Hi, I basicaly have a form of 9 images, spread in a 3 x 3 grid. What i need to do is give each image a border and on some of the borders they need to over lap the image a bit in the bottom corner with the word "NEW". So i was wondering in c# .net windows forms is there a way of layering, like one layer of buttons and a layer on top of borders (so that the border can slighlty overlap the button). Is this possible? What is the best way to do...

Hi I have a problem, which after browsing through Google, seems to be fairly common. However having tried most suggestions I am still getting the problem. I have a menu bar across the top of my page. As I click on each menu option a further list of links is displayed below it. Now in IE7 where I click on a menu option that has a large number of links below it it appears layered correctly over the top of the controls below.

I am having issues using layers due to the different ways that different browsers display them. I need to be able to layer some images together as they work independently of each other. For example - there is an image that is the background. Then, there are images used as buttons/links, then there are images that swap out based on certain clicks. All of these on the same page. Are there other options for layering images without using...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
