return value from stored proc using MS Data Access Application Block

How do I read a stored proc return value ( return(@return_ value) )
using MS Data Access Application Block.

Normally I use:

Dim conn As SqlConnection = New
SqlConnection(" connectionstrin g")
Dim cmd As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand
cmd.Connection = conn
cmd.CommandText = "NameOfStoredPr oc"
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Sto redProcedure

cmd.Parameters. Add("@Param1", SqlDbType.Int)
cmd.Parameters( "@Param1").Valu e = [value]

Dim retParam As SqlParameter =
cmd.Parameters. Add("@return_va lue", SqlDbType.Int)
retParam.Direct ion = ParameterDirect ion.ReturnValue

conn.Open()
cmd.ExecuteNonQ uery()
conn.Close()

[local var] = retParam.Value

I figure I must use SqlHelper.Execu teScalar... but can't find out how!

Please help

Morten

Hi, In SQL Books Online in the section on @@Error it gives the following example: -- Execute the INSERT statement. INSERT INTO authors (au_id, au_lname, au_fname, phone, address, city, state, zip, contract) values (@au_id,@au_lname,@au_fname,@phone,@address,

Hello people, Thanks to Serge, PM, Knut and a host of others I have now successfully completed my very first SQL Stored Procedure. Takes some 13mins or so to run, but that was expected as it does a fairly significant number of small single select and inserts from various cursors. I am very pleased with the results and can find no errors after a few days debugging a couple of never ending loops. Interestingly though, while processing...

Hello, In Access ADP's that connect to SQL Server databases, any time I have a situation where I have a combo box in a main form that looks up a record in a subform, the subform record source has to be based on either a View or a Table. I can almost always use a View, and it helps to do this since I can have better control over the size of the RecordSet of the subform. There are times when the use of a Stored Procedure would give me...

Hi. I'm sorry to bother all of you, but I have spent two days looking at code samples all over the internet, and I can not get a single one of them to work for me. I am simply trying to get a value returned to the ASP from a stored procedure. The error I am getting is: Item can not be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal. Here is my Stored Procedure code.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies.
