computer name to ip

Hi all,

Situation:
- 2 computers behind router/switch
- dhcp enabled on router
- computer name 1 = cpuA (WinXP Pro)
- computer name 2 = cpuB (WinXP Home)
- cpuA and cpuB can access each other's resources
- cpuA runs IIS with asp.net website

Problem:
- How can cpuB always get access to the asp.net website 'being served' on
cpuA
without knowing the IP of cpuA (which is always changing). I tried:
"http://cpuA/<rest_of_addres s>" and "\\cpuA\<rest_o f_address>" but both
without
any luck. It does work when I use the IP address instead
(http://<IP>/<rest_of_addres s>). Do I need to add some dns stuff to get it
working?

Regards and thanks for your time,
Frederik

I'm new to VB.NET programming and would like some help on a little project I've got going. How would I go about getting computer information on my local computer, i.e. serial number, hard drive size, memory installed, etc. Then take it one step further and gather this info for all computers on a network. I really appreciate any help on this, Jim Scheffler

Leaving network identification/DNS out of the picture, how does one change the name of a computer in a local Workgroup (in C#)? I implemented the SetComputerName() API call and that only seems to change the NetBIOS Computer Name. I've verified that the underlying registry key value that gets changed is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName\ComputerName\ComputerName Is there a recommended API (via Active...

When you go to "MyComputer" and get properties and select "Computer Name", you get the Domain or Workgroup a computer belongs to. I have looked thru MSDN library, the Internet, the Registry and in all files on my computer and cannot find how to retrieve this information in VB.Net 2005. This information is essential for our system implementation. I have tried: NetworkInformation.IPGlobalProperties.GetIPGlobalProperties but it does not...

I have been trying to find some API routines that will allow me to determine the name of the computer that is accessing a file on a server. I have found the NetFileEnum call (returns the names of the files in use and the names of the users accessing them). I have also found the NetConnectionEnum call (returns the name of the computer that is accessing a share). I do not see any way of correlating the data that these two api calls...

For example, I want to know the date to when a computer was joined to a domain. Here is what I'm using so far but don't get the information that I want. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at all the various methods for resEnt but non led me to information about my test computer. Dim ENTRY As...

I'm trying to build code that allows the computer name to be changed, then asks the user to reboot to make the change affective. I got the code working when logged in as the local computer administrator or a domain administrator, but a regular domain user (with administrator privileges on the local machine) can't run the code successfully. They get error 1219, which I believe means "Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
