Rename my Computer

HI,

I need to install a service that changes Host Name, computer name, on all
our machines.
I have tried to ways:
First one:
static void RenameHostName( )
{
ManagementClass mComputerSystem = new ManagementClass
("Win32_Compute rSystem");
ManagementBaseO bject objNewComputerN ame =

CoomputerSystem .GetMethodParam eters("Rename") ;
Console.WriteLi ne(objNewComput erName["Name"]);
objNewComputerN ame["Name"] = "NewHostNam e";
Console.WriteLi ne(objNewComput erName["Name"]);
mComputerSystem .InvokeMethod(" Rename",objNewC omputerName,nul l);
}

Second way
static void RenameHostName2 ()
{
using(Managemen tObject cs = new
ManagementObjec t(@"Win32_Compu tersystem.Name= 'myHostName'"))

{

cs.Get();

ManagementBaseO bject inParams = cs.GetMethodPar ameters("Rename ");

inParams["Name"] = "NewHostNam e";

ManagementBaseO bject outParams = cs.InvokeMethod ("Rename", inParams,
null);

// Check return value ...

uint ret = (uint)outParams .Properties["ReturnValu e"].Value;

}
}

None of these has worked, my hostName is still the same..... Do I have to
restart my computer after changing hostName or will the the system change
without restarting my computer???

is there any other way to change host name??? All new Ideas are very
appreciated.

I know that if you change the computer name manually, you have to
restart the computer.

Seems to me there should be a simple method available in the framework to rename a file, but I cannot find such a thing. This has to be something that is done all the time so I am assuming I just don't see the function. Help, thanks Lloyd Sheen

On Windows, if I do os.rename(old, new) where old is a file that is in-use (e.g. python itself, or a dll that is loaded), I would expect that an error would be raised (e.g. as when os.remove is called with an in-use file). However, what happens is that a copy of the file is made, and the old file still exists. For example: C:\>c:\python24\python.exe Python 2.4.2 (#67, Sep 28 2005, 12:41:11) on win32

An inquisitive question...... A ListBox lists all the directories & files residing in a directory on the server. Assume that the ListBox lists 2 directories & 4 files. Also assume that one of the directories is named 'mydir' (without the quotes). Note that the all the letters in the directory name are in lowercase. To rename any directory/file, one can use the Move method of the Directory/File class respectively but ASP.NET doesn't...

I have been programing in PHP recently. For this reason, I have lots of basic doubts. Let's see one of then. I'm developing in the localhost, so safety issues are not important. I have a script trying to rename some local files, however, PHP reports an error. I don't have permission to access that folder, therefore, it's not possible to do this task. I'm using pHP as a module of Apache (Apache2Triad). The variable "open_basedir" in...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
