I have one page that may take a while to process on the server, and I'd like
to implement a please wait message on this page when it posts back to the
server and does its business.
The page is an ASP.NET webform that contains a Web User Control. The Web
User Control is doing all of the work posting. How can I inform the user of
what is happening at the server while the data from this web user control is
being processed?

Hi there,
A few weeks until I begin my journey towards a degree in Computer
Science at Canterbury University in New Zealand,
Anyway the course tutors are going to be teaching us JAVA wth bluej and
I was wondering if anyone here would be able to give me some tips for
young players such as myself, for learning the language.
Is this the best Newsgroup for support with JAVA?

I am having some strange thread synchronization problems that require me to
better understand the intricacies of Monitor.Wait/Pulse.
I have 3 threads. Thread 1 does a Monitor.Wait in a SyncLock block
protecting a resource. Thread 2 and 3 also have a SyncLock block protecting
the same resource and after executing some code in their blocks they both do
a Monitor.Pulse to hand of the locked resource back to thread 1.
While thread 1 has...

Hi,
I have a C# project which handles web requests to a server. On my
local machine, I can usually attach to aspnet_wp once and debug file
(hitting breakpoints), however if I stop and want to attach again I
need to close the VS ide and start it again. If I don't do this I no
breakpoints are hit and if I try to break execution, i get a message
saying to "wait until the debugee has finished loading".
I am trying to use remote debugging now...

Hi
I have never done this before... but I could use it now.
How do I create a "please wait" page, which will "reload" once my real
page is ready?
I am talking of a waiting time of some 10-20 secs, but can be
worse.... still even 10 secs I'd like something telling the user, that
data is being processed.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
