EditCommandButt on in DataGrid

Hello,

I am trying to add an EditCommand Button to a datagrid. If I
programmaticall y add the button, like this:

Dim eb As EditCommandColu mn

eb = New EditCommandColu mn
With eb
.ButtonType = ButtonColumnTyp e.PushButton
.EditText = "Edit"
.UpdateText = "Update"
.CancelText = "Cancel"
.ItemStyle.Hori zontalAlign = HorizontalAlign .Center
.HeaderStyle.Bo rderStyle = BorderStyle.Non e
End With

prmDataGrid.Col umns.Add(eb)
I have no problems at all.

However, if I simply add a static button at design time, like this:

<Columns>
<asp:EditComman dColumn ButtonType="Pus hButton" UpdateText="Upd ate"
CancelText="Can cel" EditText="Edit" ></asp:EditCommand Column>

....other columns here...
</Columns>

Then when I actually click my Edit button, my code-behind doesn't
fire. I am not altering my datagrid as all. My datagrid control
looks like this:

<asp:datagrid Width="75%" id="dgTest" runat="server"
GridLines="Hori zontal" AutoGenerateCol umns="False"
OnEditCommand=" dgTest_EditComm and">
<HeaderStyle CssClass="Minor Titles"></HeaderStyle>
<Columns>
....
</Columns>
</asp:datagrid>

I'm not sure why my function 'dgTest_EditCom mand' will work if I
programmaticall y add the EditCommandButt on but will not work when I
use a static button.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

When you place it in the ASP, it does not automagically wire up necessarily
(I think it does if you use the right click "Property Builder", but I have
not tested. To manually wire it up, create the event handler(s) you need and
add Handles EventName to the end. That should solve the problem.

Occasionally, VS.NET will delete handlers (not sure what the cause is), so
getting the Handles syntax down is a godsend.

Hi All I have been trying to add a control to the header cell of a datagrid on my ASP.NET page. These controls are defined in the HTML as ASP.NET web controls. They are being added into the header of the datagrid in the "ItemDataBound" method of the grid. However, once, they are added in the grid, i seem to lose the event handler for the same control. Is there anyone who has tried this before and knows why this is hapenning ??

Hello, I know this has been discussed a lot already because I've been searching around for information the last few weeks. I'm trying to implement a DataGridComboBoxColumn class. I've found several examples on the web. They all seem to have problems, though that I've been unable to resolve. The most promising example I have found is at:

Win2000 ..Net 1.1 SP1 c# using Visual Studio Ok, I'm currently in a "knock down - drag out" tussle with the .Net 1.1 datagrid. I've come to realize that a 'block' of rows highlighted within a datagrid do >> not << constitute a set of 'selected' records. Apparently one and only one row may be 'selected' in a datagrid. By selected row I mean the row

Are there any add-on products or samples available that can do the following in an vb.net datagrid I want to compare 2 rows in a datagrid - one row from one database and another row for another database. So all the even rows would be from database one. All the odd rows would be from database two. Row one and two will have different formats and colors.

Having an issue with the datagrid.... Instead of actually updating everytime someone selects update in the datagrid, I am currently writing an XML file on the server that consists of the datagrid changes, to which, when the "Submit" button is selected it will then do the update (including the XML file). The problem is that the EditCommandButton->Update does the "causesValidation". The Cancel and Edit do not. Therefore, when update is...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
