Security / Login issue

Hi,

I'm working on a secure webportal, a simple representation of my folders:

Root
->Users
->Admins
->Printing

If somebody attempts to access a sub folder he or she will be redirected to
the Logon webpage (Forms security in web.config)

Based on roles I would like to give persons permissions to view pages.

users are entering the website as www.website.com
admins as admin.website.c om
print companies as repro.website.c om

Can I use the Server Variable "SERVER_NAM E" to redirect the different types
of users savely to their part of the website after authorizing them?

Are there any recommendations or suggestions related to this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Remco

I'm still a novice when it comes to session security issues. The problems I'm trying to solve may be fairly common, but I haven't seen examples of solutions in any of the books I've looked at. I currently have a page called 'login.php' which requires the user to provide a userid/password combination. If the user logs in successfully (i.e., the supplied userid/password combination is in the mysql database), the user is directed to a page...

Hey, I have a question about how secure the following will be.... I want to have a login form that posts to itself, so when it loads it checks if there is a username and password on the query list. If there is not, it asks for one. If there is, it checks to see if the information is valid. If it is not valid, it deletes the attributes and calls itself again.

I'm currently working on desiging several web based applications that would be grouped into a larger web based menu system. However I'm not sure exactly how to go about making it as secure as possible. I'm guessing most systems are setup in the following fashion. Create a single user account (I'll reference this account as ROOT) that has access to all the tables my applications will use. Create a table for storage of...

I am fighting with XP-Pro and VS.Net trying to allow some of the pages in my application to be accessable by 'all' I am using <authentication mode="Forms" /> and if I Login - everything works fine. My code comes from a walkthrough (I am learning) and I am currently using (User.Identity.IsAuthenticated) in the Login.aspx page to validate UserID against my database (I like it). What I need is a 'simple' method by which I can set some...

Requirement: managers can login and only see employee data for the department they manage and any sub-ordinate departments. The departments are in a table that defines a simple tree structure with DepartmentID and ParentDepartmentID. The Employee table holds the DepartmentID that the employee belongs to. First issue is how to tie an Access or MSSQL login to an employee record. In Access this is fairly simple as you just make it part of...

Our intranet is running under windows integrated security. We have domain users that want to access our intranet site via ssl vpn. SSL VPN can not authenticate against services that run under windows integrated security. In order to get around this issue it seems that we would need to create a login page on a separate site that runs under anonymous security. Then pass the users credentials to the site running under integrated security. ...

I have AJAX-style calls that will require a user's login for permission checks. I might have been OK with the login ID rolled into a session variable, but now I'm faced with calling my AJAX functions with the login, which would be pretty easy to hack. I was thinking on a successful login attempt to issue a GUID to that session and store it in a hashtable server-side with the login name, probably expire it after 24 hours. This seems...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
