Access 2000 security issue

I hope someone can help me out set up the security properly.

I have Microsoft Access 97 and Access 2000 in my computer and I developed my
database with Access 2000 with the updated patch SP-3.

I had no trouble to create a workgroup and successfully to run the security
wizard and the group permissions. Everything seemed to work fine as expected
as long as both mdb and mdw files were in the same folder.

Unfortunately, the problem came up when I renamed or moved the folder and
did not join the workgroup to the specific folder. There would be no more
log-on prompt when I opened up the database. In order words, people would be
able to make a backup copy and open it up in any computer with the default
(or any) workgroup file.

I checked the default user group and the permission had been completely
removed (after running the security wizard). The default admin account was
no longer with the admins group.

I even followed Microsoft recommendation to create a new empty database and
import all objects from the secured database in order to work around the
security issue with the Access 97. So far, none of measures was successful.

Anyone can shed the light on the issue?

Thanks

I can only recommend that you download the Security FAQ from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/207793/en-us. It is many pages, and it
contains no filler-material (all the content is information). Read it,
study it, and repeat... then try out what you think you know on a _copy_ of
your database.

Be prepared to make a few mistakes, from which you recover by making yet
another copy of the original, and continuing with your exploration.

There could be other reasons, but my first guess as to the cause of what you
are experiencing is that you developed the database while not logged in to a
/ the Workgroup file, so you were under the default login of "Admin", thus
making Admin the owner... the owner can always get in... and, when you moved
to another folder, you were using Access again with the default user id of
"Admin" so you could, of course, get in.

There is a step in the FAQ for changing ownership of the database to a
userid that is in the workgroup file.

Again, that may not be your problem, so read the FAQ carefully, follow it
carefully (miss a step and you may end up with a database so insecure that
anyone can get in, or one so secure that even you can no longer get in).

I don't like "joining workgroup files", so place an icon on the user's
desktop with command line statements that open the database with the
appropriate workgroup file... and do the same for any secured databases I
have on my machine, too.

Recently I have changed the VB Application for Authentication method to connect to the SQL Server 7.0 database using the Windows NT Authentication. Later I had created permissions for Select, Insert, Update, Delete, Exec everything based on the Windows NT Authentication on an Active Directory Group based. Now I am trying to use the application from the Windows 2000 machine. It runs normal with the all rules applied.

I've just received a new computer with Win XP Version 5.1.2600. I want to have Access 2003 and Access 97 running on this, so I did some googling on cdma and it seems I must install these versions of Access "sequentially", ie, A97, first. When I use the Office 97 installation cd, pick my choices, I end up, at the end of the installation, an error telling me the system.mdw could not be created. When I click OK on this, the installer...

I'm experiencing extremely slow response times in design mode of my forms since moving to Access 2003. Simply dragging a button to a different position on the form takes 30 seconds or more. The record source for my form is an ODBC passthrough query to an Oracle database. I have two XP system identically configured except that one has Access 2000 and the other with Access 2003. I only have this problem with Access 2003. The Access 2003...

Hi folks. I have an ASP.Net application that runs a .Net dll that uses WMI and ADSI(both managed) to connect to a given IIS root and search through it. When not using the ASP.Net client, but running from a winforms project - I can connect to both local and remote machines. However, when using the ASP.Net project - I get an "Access denied" exception. This happens when calling the ManagementScope.Connect() method.

The delema is what is best to use ase the DB engine, Access I have as part of Office 2002 or should I really be looking at SQL...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
