Hi,
I have had trouble determining whether the STL list.size() operation
is O(1) or O(n). I know the list is a doubly-linked list, so if the
size() operation begins at the head, then counts to the end -
obviously its O(n). However, keeping track of inserts and deletes
isn't that tough, so its conceivable (to me!) that size() could be
O(1). For my application, the lists can be quite long (millions of
elements), so the answer greatly...

Hi,
I am just reading that book by Scott Meyers. In Item 4 Meyers suggests
to always use empty() instead of size() when probing for emptyness of
STL containers. His reasoning is that size() might take linear time on
some list implementations. That makes sense at first.
However, he also says this at the very beginning:
"That being the case , you might wonder why one construct should be
preferred to the other, especially in view of the...

Hello, I wish to modify the dimension of the font within a given table (that
is, not yet in the whole page); when I hit a button, the font's size
increases by 1 point; another button decreases it by 1 point (starting from
the default size), and a last button will reset it to the original size.
Pratically, whichever might be the default size (which I set from three css,
swapped accordingly to the screen's res), the text inside that table...

I would like to have an array declaration where the size of the array
is dependent on a variable. Something like this:
/* Store the desired size of the array in a variable named
"array_size". */
unsigned short int array_size = 25;
/*Declare an array named "numbers" using the variable initialized
above. */
unsigned short int numbers;

Hi all,
I'm building some style sheets and trying to play the old game of
balancing designer pixel perfection and still allowing users to adjust
their font sizes. The compromise I've made with the designer is that
he'll accept allowing users to change font sizes it it "looks right"
with the default setting.
I'm using em to set the font size. So, anyway, here's the problem. At
0.96em we get the perfect font size. But, if the font is...

Hi,
It looks like the only way to get a size of a file within csharp is to
use FileInfo and the Length property. However that only returns the
number of bytes in the file which is translating properly (I have a
file that has a size of 1 KB but has 14 bytes in it so the conversion
isn't working right). Is there some method/property out there that
will get the actual size of the file? Also, would there be a method
like this that will...

Hi all,
We are using strcpy to copy strings in our app. This gave us problems
when the destination buffer is not large enough. As a workaround, we
wanted to replace calls to strcpy with strncpy. That is, replace calls
to strcpy with say, my_strcpy(dest,src) which will internally find the
destination buffer length.
For this we need to know the destination buffer size. For statically
allocated strings sizeof is returning the length of the...

Hello
I have a UserControl sized to 100; 200
When I drop it in my form the initial size is 100;200 (as I prefer). Then I
decided to change the size of my UserControl to 200;200 but although I have
not set any value to the size of the dropped control in my form, recompiling
the project does not affect the new size of the user control in my form.
Surprisingly if I reset the Size property of my user control in the form,
the size changes...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
